A platform that brings together chat, appointments, notes and document collaboration in one space.
It's no secret that Slack is one of the most successful tools for team communication. Microsoft tried to change this in 2016 with its own product called Microsoft Teams. However, Slack was and still is free, and Teams was only offered as part of paid Office 365. Is it worth describing the implications?
Two years later, Microsoft realized that they couldn’t succeed that way, and so they added free use to Microsoft Teams. Considering that the functionality of this platform is in many ways superior to the competition, such a turnaround is fundamentally different.
The free plan allows you to use Microsoft Teams on teams of up to 300 people. In addition, the following useful features can be distinguished:
- unlimited number of messages in the chat and search by them;
- built-in audio and video calls for individual, group and team meetings;
- 10 GB shared storage plus an additional 2 GB per user;
- integration with other Microsoft products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote;
- integration with 140 third-party services and applications, including Adobe, Evernote and Trello;
- the ability to communicate and interact with any participants, even those who are not part of your team.
Compared to Microsoft Teams, the free Slack plan is now less attractive. It allows you to search only in the last 10,000 messages, which may not be enough for a large team with lively correspondence. Only 5 GB of disk space is allocated here, 10 integrations with third-party services, there are no guest accounts, and video communication is only possible between individual users.
As you can see, Microsoft's proposal looks much more interesting now. Only conservatism of users, the difficulty of moving to a new platform, or prejudice against the services of the manufacturer can hinder the popularity of this service.
