The life hacker has already told why it is useful to keep a personal diary. And here is what the popular writer and journalist Leo Babauta thinks about it.

Why it is useful to blog and write to it daily
Why it is useful to blog and write to it daily

One of the most important changes in my life has become the habit of writing something every day. For many years I was a writer who did not regularly devote time to my craft. I thought all the time that I should write something, but somehow I didn't have enough time all the time. I started blogging in 2007 and have been writing every day since then. It changed my life. And I recommend writing even to those whose classes have nothing to do with it. I'll explain why next.

- When you write, it makes you think about life and the changes that you make to it. This is valuable because sometimes we do things without any idea what they will lead to in the end.

- When you write, your mind is cleared and thoughts are structured. Often thoughts and feelings are some kind of incomprehensible substance in your head. Something is happening there, but you just can't make out what exactly. But when you write down thoughts, they crystallize and transform into a clear logical structure.

“When you write regularly, you start to do it better, which is very important in our digital age.

- When you write for an audience, even if the audience is just you, you start thinking from the side of the reader. And this is where the magic begins. As if moving away from yourself and taking the side of the reader, you begin to perceive what you have written from the other side, and this helps you to better understand the people around you: friends, colleagues. You begin to look at the world more broadly, and you learn to experience empathy.

- When you write, you try to convincingly defend your point of view, as if trying to convince yourself of it. This will help you convince those around you, you will learn to find the right words so as not to attack a person, forcing him to defend himself and hold on to his opinion even more tightly, but to act gently, as if you were explaining this to yourself.

- To write something every day, every day there must be some ideas. You start looking for them, but they are everywhere: on the Internet, films, music, magazines, paintings … And when you start writing, you start to see them, you are open to new things. And often it is during the writing of the next text that a solution to a complex problem suddenly comes to you.

- If you write in a blog, it will help you to form an audience around you who are interested in your thoughts, which you can help with something. And this is good for both business and personal career, and just in terms of communication. You will have your own circle of people who are interested in the same as you.

And this is just the beginning. The irony is that all the benefits of the habit of writing on a daily basis cannot be described in words, but can only be felt for yourself.

How to start writing daily?

There are many different ways to start writing regularly, my recommendations are based on personal experience.

You need to set yourself a condition: write daily. Don't start by writing once a week or 3 times a week. No, immediately and only write daily. The main thing is also to adhere to this decision.

You need to set aside time for this in your plans. It cannot be "when there is a free minute," no, nothing will come of it. Choose a time when you are not too busy with the main things. It can be early morning if you are an early riser, or late evening if you are a night owl, but you shouldn't be too tired.

Start small. Oh yeah! This is said very often, but, nevertheless, many people continue to ignore this rule: do not try to eat the whole elephant. You do not need to immediately write a text of 3000 characters, and even 1000. Do not put frames at all. Start writing as much as you can every day. The main thing is to start.

Start a blog. Of course, you can use a special application for entries, and just any text editor, but I recommend starting a blog. Create a free WordPress.com or Tumblr account, and go! Why blog? Yes, because it stimulates you to come up with ideas, diversify your posts, so that your audience (albeit very small) would be interested in reading you. It's scary at first, but you start anyway. You will soon feel more comfortable. And in general, fear should not interfere with your inner growth.

Turn off distractions. Writers are the world's greatest procrastinators. You may well find yourself all at the same table in an hour, and only the first line of the article will be written in an open document. So get rid of all the distractions right away. Disable social networks, close unnecessary tabs, it is best to turn off the phone too, or at least put it away. Only you and a blank sheet of paper should remain in this world, on which you will now write something.

The tips in this article are enough to get you started. Later, you will learn how to interact with the audience, understand their desires and draw your inspiration from them. But all this will come later, after you start your blog and start writing to it every day, without breaks and weekends.
