All of the female characters created by Disney and Pixar over the past 10 years are virtually the same. What is it: laziness of artists, sexism, or something else?

Leading animator of the cartoon "Frozen", which is very difficult to bring women to life.

They should convey the full range of emotions, but at the same time remain charming. The work on a film with two heroines had to endure. And make them look different in the same scene, where they experience the same emotions. Angry Elsa shouldn't be like angry Anna.

But do all male characters have unique and emotional faces at once? Where does this difference come from?

It turns out that Disney's bizarre tendency to paint all heroines equally big-eyed and snub-nosed extends far beyond Frozen. Recently, a Tumblr user named Alex shared her frustration at her discovery.

She watched several frames of the cartoon "Puzzle". And this picture worried her:

- At first I thought I saw three women and two aliens. But the trailer suggested that the purple and red characters are men. I outlined their faces and realized what confused me, - wrote Alex.

The three female characters have the same facial structure: big eyes, button noses, chubby cheeks. To unravel the conspiracy, Alex has sketched many Disney and Pixar cartoon characters over the past 10 years.

The results confirmed the suspicions. For some reason, Disney and Pixar refuse to paint women realistic, special, interesting and, um, not cute enough.

Obviously, every Disney girl is a clone or direct descendant of some original creature with incredibly round cheeks and a suspiciously small nose. Because there is no other explanation (other than laziness and sexism) for the lack of diversity among women’s faces.

Disney! Why do all the girls you have drawn in the last 10 years have the same face shape? And don't say that women are harder to draw! Stop thinking that all women have round baby faces and little baby noses! Stop hovering in the clouds! Pull yourself together!

Alex

Men in cartoons have faces that are square, round, thin, fat, alien, attractive and ugly. The girls get the same round snub-nosed baby face. It is not right.

Why is Disney so hopelessly behind in making female portraits? If they're really trying to push boundaries and make female characters more complex, then why not make women in cartoons as different, special and recognizable as the stories in which they exist?

What do you think?
