The update released in November is radically different from the usual small patches and is more like a full-fledged installation of an operating system. Before starting it, a Windows backup is created so that in case of any trouble, you can return to its original state. It is for creating a backup that the system reserves more than two dozen gigabytes on the drive. In the event that the size of the system partition is already small, this can be a significant problem.
If after installing the update you have not noticed any errors or failures in the operating system for several days, then everything went fine and the backup can be deleted. This can be done using the standard Disk Cleanup utility. To launch it, right-click on the system disk icon in the explorer and select the "Properties" item from the menu. In the window that appears, click on the "Disk Cleanup" button.
After analyzing the files available for deletion, you will see the Disk Cleanup utility window. Here you need to click on the "Clean up system files" button and wait for the end of the disk analysis. As a result, you will be presented with a list of data that can be safely deleted. Check the boxes for Previous Windows installations and Temporary Windows installation files. In total, this will free up about 21 GB of your disk space.
Many users do not even know about the existence of a backup copy of the operating system and are perplexed where the free space disappeared after the November update of Windows 10.
