Surely you have heard more than once from athletes or those who lead a healthy lifestyle, are fond of sports and are not lazy to keep an accurate record of everything they eat (BZHUK) that their BMI is 20%, but it needs to be brought to the cherished 10%. We want to say that you should not dwell on the indicator, the formula for which was derived 200 years ago. It does not take into account the individual characteristics of the human body at all.;)

Body mass index is the ratio of body weight in kilograms to the square of height, expressed in meters (kg / m2). The formula was derived by the Belgian mathematician Adolphe Kuetelet in 1832 and was then called the Kuetelet index. After 140 years, it was renamed Body Mass Index.

Distinguish between female and male types of obesity. In women, the area of the buttocks and hips is affected - gynoid obesity. Men are characterized by excess weight in the trunk (especially the abdomen) - visceral (abdominal) obesity.

If, after the calculations, your index turned out to be less than 18.5, then you have excessive thinness. People with a body mass index of 18.5 to 24.9 are considered normal. An index from 25 to 29, 9 indicates overweight - I degree (overweight). Indicators from 30 to 34, 9 indicate obesity (IIa degree), from 35 to 39, 9 - severe obesity (IIb), above 40 - pronounced, or morbid, obesity (III degree).
