“This thing is as easy to operate as it is to play Minecraft,” says Sebastian Thrun, CEO of Kitty Hawk.
The Kitty Hawk startup, bought by Google co-founder Larry Page, has unveiled the Flyer, a single-seater flying car. The device is named after the Wright brothers' first airplane.
The aircraft is a hybrid of a quadcopter, a seaplane and an electric vehicle and weighs just over 113 kg. The device is capable of reaching speeds of over 30 km / h and flying at an altitude of one to three meters.
The Flyer is driven by five rotors powered by electric motors. So far, the battery is only enough for a flight of 20 minutes. And the device can only take off from the water and land on it.
But, according to the creators, in the future, the autonomy of the Flyer will increase significantly, and the flight speed will reach 160 km / h. True, you first have to equip the pilot with a parachute.
In the video, CNN journalist Rachel Crane Flyer in flight. It took her only an hour and a half to master the controls.
So far, Kitty Hawk has not disclosed the price of the Fluer and the date of the start of mass production, but it is already taking on the flying device.
