Ariana Grande - thank u, next

Ariana Grande - thank u, next
Ariana Grande - thank u, next

Ariana Grande did not have time to collect all the awards for the August record Sweetener, as she released an even more hit-and-miss work. Three songs from thank u, next instantly hit the first lines of the Billboard Hit 100 charts, and the track 7 rings still holds the first place.

The release of the album was accompanied by the most unwelcome promotional campaign one can think of. The singer recorded the disc in two weeks, recovering from the death of her best friend and ex-boyfriend Mac Miller. According to legend, the release was not thought to be commercially successful at all - just friends came to Ariana at a difficult moment and helped to record the album that saved her life. It turned out to be deeply personal and hard work.

thank u, next - trivial, but still talented pop of the 2010s with interesting vocals. As expected, some in absentia call the release the best this year, others hate it. But whether we like it or not: Ariana Grande is already the most talked about singer of the year, and it remains to be seen how long her success will last.

Pet Shop Boys - Agenda

Pet Shop Boys - Agenda
Pet Shop Boys - Agenda

Pet Shop Boys are the stars of the 1980s. Their tracks It’s A Sin and Go West became the same time markers as Montana watches or Love Is gum. But if chewing gum and watches once disappeared from our lives, then the team does not: about once every two years they appear on the horizon and release what their fans are waiting for.

The duo of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe is desperately trying to be relevant, talking about politics and social media. But no matter how hard the team tries, the result is the same nostalgic synth-pop from the 1980s and 1990s. However, Pet Shop Boys cannot be scolded for that. In the end, they do what only they can do, and they do it consistently with high quality.

Boulevard Depo - Stay Ugly

Boulevard Depo - Stay Ugly
Boulevard Depo - Stay Ugly

Boulevard Depo became famous five years ago. Then cloud rap was in vogue, the aesthetics of web punk felt very fresh, and "Boulevard" along with Pharaoh seemed the most controversial freshman of the new rap school.

In 2018, Boulevard Depo released the full-length album Rapp2, which became the main hip-hop release according to the version of "Native Sound" and was included in the five albums of the year The Flow. Rapp2 was rich in collaboration, and this is the main difference between the crowned predecessor and the fresh Stay Ugly, where the rapper did not have any guests at all.

Stay Ugly is six compositions of "pure" Depo with a characteristic relaxed reading, ironic lyrics and sudden quotes from Vladimir Vysotsky, then from Pavel Volya.

If in Rapp2 Boulevard Depo proved to be old enough to fit with the stars of the first echelon, now he has finally secured the title of an original musician. Even at a time when every second freshman can be called original in its own way.

Addiction Loop - Hum

Addiction Loop - Hum
Addiction Loop - Hum

"Gul" is the fifth album of the Minsk band "Loop of Addiction". In her lyrics, there is a protest against everyday life, pain from love, dissatisfaction with the present and a look into the future, in which there is nothing good. All this is accompanied by an unexpectedly perky and lively sound, under which pulls, if not pushing at the stage, then beat off the rhythm with your fingers, sitting in an office chair.

With each new track, the band members seem to come to terms with a gray reality: despair is gradually becoming the norm, and hopelessness is perceived as a given, because of which one should not be nervous.

Instead of a verdict: something like this would sound like the hits of "Our Radio" if they put something more interesting than the group "Splin".
