5 November releases

The Smashing Pumpkins - Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP

The long-awaited release, recorded for the 30th anniversary of the band. One could mark him with a return to The Smasing Pumpkins of the 90s, especially since for the first time in 20 years the members of the band's classic line-up are involved in the recording. But this is not entirely true. This album with an unpronounceable title is rather just half an hour of Billy Corgan. Corgana is melodic, slightly experimental and quite different: there is an almost grungy Solara, a promising opening with the female choir Knights of Malta, and a touching lyric ballad Silvery Sometimes (Ghost). The album is short, easy to listen to in one gulp and several times in a row.

The Beatles - White Album (2018)

An extended six-disc reissue of one of the most important albums of The Beatles, which included some completely insane amount of tracks. The first two discs are original songs of the White Album with new mastering. The rest are demos, jams and doubles from the studio that were not included in the 1968 album. The new "White Album" is not something sensational, but just an excuse to listen to the best music in the world and once again realize that it is not outdated at all.

The Prodigy - No Tourists

Another hello from the past, albeit not so distant. The fact that this is the same The Prodigy as 20 years ago was clear from the very first singles - the full release only confirmed this opinion. No new ideas, no experimental arrangements, nothing - the same Flint, Howlett and Reality, who did not want to leave the vacuum chamber built in the rave 90s.

However, No Tourists are still on our list. Simply because the scheme, tested over decades, still works: people dance with the same pleasure, press gas on the floor, take substances and go crazy at concerts.

"Mgzavrebi" - Geo

When all Ryazan indie rockers want to be like British, and Ufa rappers - like American, the soul requires something sincere and genuine. Therefore, in 2018, music that is not torn from its roots is an amazing and outlandish artifact that must be appreciated and protected. Such an artifact was released in November by the Georgian group "Mgzavrebi", which does not hesitate to build songs around traditional choral chants and supplement them with the sounds of panduri, chuniri and chiboni. The members of "Mgzavrebi" themselves say that the album is dedicated to the Earth and man as a citizen of the world, and call Geo the most emotional release in their discography.

"GSh" - "Benefit"

Mischief on the verge of kitsch, balancing between avant-garde and pop music, presumptive influences of Kim Gordon and Zhanna Aguzarova - in general, about the same as on the previous album "GSH" "OESH MAGZIU", but marked "× 2". The title track "Benefit", which the group has been playing at concerts for a long time, has grown here to more than 12 minutes, and the text of the only formatted song consists of one phrase, repeating to the dissonance of the guitar and clarinet.

If you have not heard "GSh", do not rush to rush into the maelstrom of unobvious melodies and check out the band's performance at the KEXP platform for a start, especially since there are two songs from the new album there.
