Five bright releases of the month

Two albums from our selection were not found in the Yandex. Music library, so we attached players from the Deezer streaming service to them. You don't have to pay to listen to the full songs. It is enough to create a free account and log in.

Arctic Monkeys - Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino

The long-awaited album from the British, which did not live up to the expectations of most of the fans at all. There are no guitar bangers in the style of the early Arctic Monkeys, nor the formatted greased hits like on the album five years ago. But there is a complex and interesting experiment by Alex Turner, 40 minutes long.

Arctic Monkeys have always been cramped within the style defined by their previous work, but there has never been such a change in landmarks in the band's history. The piano almost completely replaced the guitars, and the sticky choruses were replaced by slightly more intricate melodies and tunes in the style of David Bowie.

If you've never loved this band, this job is a great reason to give them a second chance. If you are a fan of the band's old creations, get ready to listen and discover new Arctic Monkeys.

Chvrches - Love Is Dead

We have been waiting for this album as much, but not so long, only three years. And then everything turned out quite predictably - some serious changes in the work of Chvrches are not immediately noticed. By the middle of the album, it becomes clear that in general the music has become a little more formatted, and the arrangements are more standard. For Love Is Dead, guest producer Greg Kirstin was responsible for them, who worked with Sia, Adele and dozens of other pop artists.

Despite some pop, Chvrches managed to remain themselves. It seems that the album did not disappoint anyone at all. Lorraine's enchanting voice, signature "fat" of synthesizers and incredibly beautiful choruses - everything is in place.

Pinkshinyultrablast - Miserable Miracles

Another album of the Petersburg shoegaze group, which is loved far beyond the borders of Russia and about which Western music media write much more often than domestic ones.

The new album is eclectic and refers now to the icons of shoegaze in the person of Slowdive and Lush, to Krautrock in the style of Stereolab, now to the synthetic 80s. You can talk for a long time about the creativity of Pinkshinyultrablast, resorting to complex terms, but the main thing is beyond words. And the main thing here is the emotions that this airy music, generous with pleasant trifles, evokes. We recommend that you turn on Miserable Miracles and start experiencing these emotions right now, coupled with a sense of healthy patriotism.

Matrang - "EYA"

The debut album of Alan Khadzagarov, known for the song "Meduza", which probably bored everyone. "EYA" is another 25 minutes of obscure lyrics, endless curtsies towards the 90s, straight house kicks, sticky choruses and cool pop tunes.

The lyrics of Matrang are another story. Lyrics that are not always burdened with meaning are sometimes so phonetically successful that nothing but "jellyfish", "shark" and the seemingly lurid phrase "free me back" is simply not embedded in these songs.

Coin - "Coloring Pages for Adults"

Album of the matured Monetochka with serious sound-producing from Viti Isaev from BCH. “Coloring Pages” have already been loved for the irony and humor in their lyrics, simple cute melodies, talented arrangements and appropriate references to the 90s, the presence of which in Russian pop music has already become a rule of good taste.

However, there are other opinions. As noted by the music critic and curator of Yandex. Music Anton Vagin, the sincerity that attracted the attention of listeners to Monetochka a couple of years ago was no longer visible behind the beauty of the arrangements, conceptuality and grandeur of the idea of the last album. A controversial remark, but one thing is certain: when the time comes to compose a selection of the best domestic albums of the year, they will definitely remember about "Raskraski".
