The first truly big smartphone appeared over five years ago. Then Samsung Galaxy Note caused a whole storm of emotions: surprise, delight, rejection, laughter. Today, such a smartphone no longer seems huge, since manufacturers have gradually taught us that a shovel near the ear is normal. And yet I would venture to say that smartphones with large diagonals are a dead-end branch of the development of telephone engineering. And that's why.

Over the past four years, there has been an obvious fact in the statistics of smartphone sales - their diagonal is gradually increasing. If a couple of years ago the market was dominated by smartphones with a diagonal of 3-4 inches, now smartphones with such a screen are rarely found even in the lowest price category. Smartphones are growing in size, obviously, but there is one problem with the process. People remain the same!

Our hands are too small

Items are made for people. All things around us have exactly the kind and size that is necessary for the most convenient use. If it occurs to some would-be inventor to constantly increase the size of spoons, scissors, keys and call it progress, then sooner or later he will be sure to say: “Hey! This is inconvenient! Enough!"

So why are we allowing a similar trick to smartphone manufacturers? We do not turn into giants at will, and our hands do not grow several sizes larger. These huge smartphones are inconvenient to use with one hand, which emasculates the main idea underlying the invention of mobile gadgets - the ability to use them in any environment, including on the go.

The original size of the mobile phone was created in harmony with the average size of a human head. It was comfortable to hold, he did not interfere with other matters while talking. Look today at a person trying to conduct a conversation with a phablet. The poor fellow barely holds it with one hand near his ear, completely hiding behind his huge gadget, as if he decided to play hide and seek. Not very convenient, and most importantly - unsafe while driving, since the view from one side is completely blocked. Why is this?

Our pockets are too small

Above, I mentioned two problems that arise when using a large smartphone. However, most of the time mobile gadgets are spent in our pockets, which is why they are mobile. And here again there is a discrepancy with this. You won't be able to just put a huge smartphone in the pocket of jeans or tight pants. You will have to choose special clothes in which your gadget will not bulge out and will not break. Or find a special handbag in which your smartphone will feel comfortable. Are the sacrifices too big for some kind of electronic toy? Will she still dictate to us what to wear?

What size of smartphone do you think is optimal? And why?
