1. Heavy Rain (PlayStation 3, 4)

Heavy rain
Heavy rain

Heavy Rain is considered one of the best games for the PlayStation 3. This is a long (for several evenings) interactive detective story in which you will have to play as several characters, one way or another involved in the history of the mysterious maniac nicknamed Origami Killer.

The characters in Heavy Rain are each brighter than the other. An inconsolable father whose child is missing. A private detective who hides a terrible secret in the past. An FBI agent who uses augmented reality glasses to investigate creepy crimes. A journalist who suffers from nightmares and insomnia. You have to play for everyone. And everyone has their own fears and phobias, their own strengths and weaknesses. For example, an FBI agent easily wins a fight, and a journalist in her scenes most often has to either run away from danger or lie convincingly.

Each scene in Heavy Rain, depending on what the player is doing, changes the plot of the entire game. Some heroes may even die in the middle of the scenario, ending their storyline and affecting the ending.

At the same time, it rains constantly during the events of the game. He does not stop even for a minute until the very end, when it turns out that he is not going just like that. But we will not spoil the surprise from such an unexpected outcome.

2. Order: 1886 (PlayStation 4)

Order: 1886
Order: 1886

The Order: 1886 is a mystical action movie about a special detachment of noble knights who hunt werewolves and terrorists throughout London at the end of the 19th century. The knights are armed not with swords, but with steam machine guns and - towards the end of the game - with a weapon that shoots lightning striking everything in its path.

Each scene here looks like a blockbuster stuffed with special effects. This is one of the most beautiful games on the PlayStation 4, where even buttons and rivets on armor can be viewed for hours. And as soon as you get tired, start looking at the reflections in the puddles and the details of London architecture.

The game is set in London, where, as you know, there are exactly three types of weather: "it will rain soon", "it is raining" and "the rain has just ended." Therefore, in some scenes, the knights realistically get wet to the last thread: their clothes sag on them, and their hair becomes wet and gradually dries indoors.

The "Order" is completed in just seven hours, so one rainy weekend will be enough for it.

3. Rain World (PlayStation 4, Windows)

Rain world
Rain world

According to the press, Rain World is one of the most ruthless games to the user. A creature named Slug-cat moves across a faded two-dimensional world, tries to get from one safe room to another, collects bonuses and tries to cope with enemies, which the game places in random order each time. All this with little or no tips, advice or training levels. Every feature and detail of the game, the authors insist, the player must find out for himself.

In practice, this translates into a hundred or two deaths and unsuccessful experiments. As soon as it begins to seem that you have more or less figured out at least some of the laws of the hard world of the game, it turns out that after some time, a real tropical monsoon comes and kills the hero. You have to start all over again. And faster this time.

In an interview, the creators admit that their game is just a "manifesto about the indifference of nature." Yes, it is difficult, but after one or two evenings in the company of the Slug-cat, the players are already sharing stories of survival in this not at all hospitable, very sad, but madly interesting game with each other.

4. Rain (PlayStation 3)

Rain
Rain

One of the few Japanese games that did without vulgarities and stylistic excesses like skyscraper-sized robots. Rain is a touching story about an orphan boy who lives in a city similar to the rainy and overcast Paris of the 19th century.

According to the plot, the boy and his girlfriend exist as invisibles. They can only be seen as silhouettes of drops in the rain. Together they must save their city from a dark creature called the Misunderstood. To do this, they will have to solve many logic puzzles. Each of them is based on the fact that until the magic rain accentuates the contours of certain objects with drops, they will not begin to exist and work.

The best thing about Rain is not puzzles, but a unique visual style, classical music by Debussy on the soundtrack and a real St. Petersburg mood, at the same time disturbing and calm. How the Japanese developers managed to so gracefully notice this feature and do without anime motifs is a real mystery.

5. The Swapper (PlayStation, Windows, macOS)

The swapper
The swapper

In modern culture, there is an established expression rainy day movie. It is a slow, judicious and usually sad movie. In this case, rain in the tape itself is not at all necessary.

If you choose the best game for a rainy day, where it may not rain, but the mood is just dreary, but cozy, then The Swapper is an ideal candidate.

This is a story about an astronaut who finds himself at an abandoned scientific station and finds a strange device that creates copies of people and allows them to be controlled. It is on cloning that the game is built. Where the hero cannot cope alone, he creates a copy of himself with a special ray, which follows him and repeats his every action.

The game is played in one rainy evening, but the piercing ending and brilliant music will be remembered for many months.
