What else to do on long rainy evenings if not handicraft? Ideas for handmade items, souvenirs and jewelry will help you survive the slush and cheer up.
1. Painting at the head of the bed
The solution for a minimalist bedroom is a headboard with a black and white print. You can make a sketch yourself if you have at least some artistic talents, or just print the drawing you like.
A blank sheet of plywood that is 5–6 cm larger than the print will become the frame. Using glue or a glue gun, attach the design to the plywood, then hang it on the wall at the headboard. Incredibly simple, and what an effect!
2. Lampshade made of newspaper tubes
This magic lamp is made from newspapers. Create one at home: take on boring evenings and waste a bunch of free press from your inbox at the same time.
First, twist the tubes. Divide the newspaper sheet horizontally into four strips. Then use any thin object to twist the tube. Knitting needles work well: place the knitting needle at an angle of 20 degrees to the edge of the newspaper and wrap the sheet. For a firm attachment, grease the edge of the strip with PVA glue.
Then the finished tubes need to be painted. It is better to do this on an "industrial" scale: dilute the dye (any that you like: even wood stain, even gouache, even food coloring) in a container in the bathroom and completely immerse all the tubes in it at once. Naturally, you need to work with gloves.
Then the tubes must be dried in the open air or in the oven at a low temperature, and then proceed to collecting the lampshade. Something like this in childhood, they collected wells from sticks, only here there is more room for creativity.
Put the design on a boring lamp - and you're done.
3. Triangular photo frames
You can clutter up the entire wall with beautiful landscape photos from your vacation, but you can approach the issue with imagination and make triangular frames. If you make a wooden base from a wide enough board (you can cut it yourself or solve the issue in a hardware store), paint the edges with bright paint and carefully cut and paste the photos on a stand, you get an unusual decoration for the interior.
4. Paper succulents
Who said that paper flowers are just daisies and roses? How about succulents?
Thick colored paper in muted and dark shades and a couple of evenings - and decoration for the interior is ready. It is necessary to cut out more sheets of paper of the same shape and different size for each flower, and then put them together using a needle and thread or wire. Cut wide sheets at the base and fasten the ends so that each leaf forms a shallow cup. Bend long sheets up with scissors or the edge of a ruler. The most difficult thing is to choose the shape for the stencil, but here nature itself will help you, just repeat after it.
5. Stands for glasses
You need to arm yourself with plywood, tools, printed stencils and markers. If you use a special colorless marker, which is used for lightening or mixing colors, then you can transfer the printed pattern to the surface of the stand with its help.
The trick of any stand: on the back, write recipes for cocktails with your favorite drinks. You can safely donate such useful coasters.
6. Christmas trees-cones
In addition to the Christmas tree, prepare small souvenirs in advance. They will need large cones and felt.
Fix the cones on the stand with glue. It is better to pre-cut a recess in the piece of wood so that the cones do not fall and the attachment points do not have to be decorated.
Then arm yourself with colorful felting wool and make small balls. The technique is simple: a small strip of wool is torn off, a dense ball is formed from it. Then the ball must be immersed in a soapy solution and rolled between your palms until it becomes completely hard.
After drying, attach the toy balls to the cone trees. The decoration is ready.
7. Door with polka dots
Work for half an hour, and your mood will improve. And you just need to buy vinyl self-adhesive film, arm yourself with compasses and scissors. Just stagger the cut out peas on the door.
8. Shiny sneakers
Shiny boots to lift your spirits. Take red, burgundy and gold glitter and glue - that's all it takes. Put paper in the fabric sneakers so that the shoes hold their shape and the sequins do not get inside. Cover with glue and cover small areas with glitter so that the glue does not have time to dry.
9. Luminous letters
A self-glued signboard made of cardboard and New Year's garland will create a mood at a party for friends and dispel the blues.
Volumetric letters are cut out of thick cardboard. Garland lamps are inserted into the holes made so that the wires are hidden in the letter cavity. Actually, that's all. You can decorate the wall.
10. Confetti vase
Inflate a regular balloon, and then using stationery glue and a brush, apply several layers of confetti to half of the sphere. The more layers you make, the thicker the walls of the vase will be. Let the glue dry for at least ten hours. Remove the ball by releasing air. The party vase is ready. You can cut off its edges so that they are even and paper circles do not fall off them.
The same vase can be made by attaching a lace napkin soaked in glue to the ball.
11. Pom-poms with letters
The task for quick wits, perseverance and spatial thinking - pompons with letters. It is not so easy to make them, but it is interesting, and ready-made pom-poms can be presented to familiar children who are learning letters, or used to decorate the interior and decorate gifts.
First, stock up on woolen threads of the same structure and thickness, but different colors. Prepare several identical cardboard horseshoes on which you will wind the threads. If you made pom-poms in labor lessons in elementary school, then remember that they are formed with the help of two bagels, on which woolen threads are wound. Then the threads are cut along the edge, and in the middle they are tied tightly. Since it is more difficult to create a pattern when working with bagels, it is better to make the pompom two-piece, that is, divide one circle in half.
Write the letters in a circle and find a line of symmetry for each of them. The letters C, E and the like will have a line at an angle of 45 degrees.
Using the letter A as an example, let's see how you need to wind the threads on a cardboard horseshoe. The first step is to create a crossbar inside the letter. To do this, wind threads of different colors, as shown in the photo. Note that the pink bottom is longer and much wider than the top, and there is very little white thread.
The next step is to evenly cover the cardboard base with white threads. Then wrap the entire shoe with pink thread. This will be half a pom-pom.
Make the second half of two more horseshoes entirely of pink threads, the thickness of the layer of threads should be the same as in the first case. Align the two halves, cut the threads around the circumference and tie the middle.
Guides for other letters and other pom-pom design ideas can be found.
12. Smiley clutch
Idea for those who love to sew. The smiley bag is made quickly. All you need is a colored leatherette, a zipper, a couple of buttons and a free evening. Fun bag, fun gift.
13. Flowers in pineapple
Such a wonderful pineapple can be made at your leisure from a regular aloe flower pot. Air-drying clay, paints and brushes - make at least a pineapple, even an apple, even a pear.
Just remember that before you shape the pot with clay, the surface must be well cleaned and dried.
14. Soap Jewelry
You can find a set for making homemade soap at any craft store, and there are many options for its use. For example, with a set of the most common shapes, you can create a collection of precious stones. First, according to the instructions for the set, prepare several soap bars of different colors, both transparent and matte: they will become the basis for the crystals. When the pieces have hardened, use a razor blade to cut them into thin pieces and fill them into a deep mold. Do not stack the soap debris tightly, let it lie naturally.
Then fill the shape with a transparent base and let it harden. Cut the finished piece in the shape of a crystal.
15. Laptop stand
Hooray, you can lie in bed with a laptop on your lap several times longer than you are used to. Make a laptop stand: it only needs a board of sufficient size (you can cut it yourself from a sheet of plywood or buy, for example, a large cutting board at a hardware store). Then you need to cut out a pillow from the foam rubber, sheathe it with a cloth and glue it on one side of the board. A portable table with a soft surface for the knees and a hard one for a laptop is ready.
16. Book-clutch
Of course, it's not good to treat books like that, but sometimes you get into trouble. And if no one flips the pages, and the binding is preserved, it will make an excellent bag. You need to make a lining of fabric, a fastener with a button and side inserts, stitch them and attach them with a glue gun to the binding.
Look for a detailed guide.
17. Cover for the e-book
Another way to use old binding, which is nothing. You can glue a felt pad and elastic device clips to it, and attach a cork pad for added protection. The result is a hybrid of paper and e-books.
18. Not just a glass
Take a regular sponge or a special sponge brush, glass paint that imitates metal, scotch tape, and the simplest glass glasses. Clean the glass thoroughly. Protect the top of the glass with tape, and apply paint with a brush, making movements strictly from top to bottom. When the first coat is dry, apply the second. Make as many layers as you like.
Let the paint dry for an hour and slowly remove the tape so as not to ruin the paint layer. To fix the coating, put the glass in a cold oven and heat it to 180 ° C, hold the glasses at this temperature for 30 minutes.
19. Pillow with tentacles
Any pattern of travel pillow can be slightly modified and turned into tentacles: you need sharp curved ends, fabric in two colors and decor in the form of suction cups.
The suction cups on the tentacles are made of felt. Cut out different sized circles, sew a few stitches, and gather together. Sew the centers of the circles to the pillow, and the tentacles of the unknown kraken will support your head along the way.
