A new Apple patent, which became known only yesterday, points to the possible appearance of a fingerprint scanner in the remote control of the future generation of Apple TV. This sensor can either serve as a control element exclusively for television functions, or become part of HomeKit tied to a TV set-top box.

In the accompanying documents and images to the Apple patent, you can see how Touch ID should work with a next generation set-top box. After reading the fingerprint, the remote will activate one of several as yet unnamed functions.

Most likely, this will allow you to buy content in the App Store and iTunes without a long password entry from the remote control. The same sensor will be able to identify the user and log in under his account. The latter will probably be assigned some settings, such as the standard sound volume for each person.

If expectations are confirmed, and Apple TV becomes a hub for HomeKit devices, just one touch of the remote control will change the mode of operation of all smart home appliances in the house or room. The temperature will change, the brightness of the bulbs will be adjusted, and so on.

The chance to see the announcement of the new Apple TV was back in early summer, at WWDC, but the set-top box was not shown there. The next hypothetical date for the appearance of the device is autumn. Until that time, Apple may sign a number of contracts with TV companies and launch its TV broadcasting service, somewhat similar to Apple Music.
