Design and ergonomics

The Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G is an extremely pleasant smartphone, very thin and light, with smooth lines and rounded corners. Despite this, it is difficult to hold it with one hand due to the long body. Because of it, the phone will constantly wink at passers-by from your back pocket of jeans.

The model is available in turquoise and black. We tested the dark version. Glossy gradient logo letters shimmer on the back. According to the company, the case is resistant to scratches and fingerprints, as well as water resistant. We really did not notice the increased soiling. But the equipment still has to be wiped from dust more often than we would like: the glossy cover collects it too quickly. Due to the perfectly smooth body, the phone strives to jump out of your hands, so immediately pull on the standard silicone case that comes with the kit.

The fifth generation Gorilla Glass is responsible for protection from everything in the world. The rear panel houses the main camera unit. The modules protrude slightly above the body - not the most comfortable solution, because of which the lenses can be scratched or dirty faster.

There is a front-facing camera on the front panel. It is located in a small hole in the upper corner of the screen and does not attract too much attention. An optical fingerprint sensor is located under the display. The face recognition function is also available and works quite cheerfully.

The smartphone looks really expensive and beautiful. Design is one of the strengths of the novelty.

Screen

The model received an AMOLED display with a diagonal of 6.5 inches and a resolution of 1,080 × 2,400 pixels. The picture is lively, clear and bright. A great advantage of AMOLED-screens is the maximum contrast level. Turn on dark mode to enjoy it fully. There is support for the HDR10 + standard.

In the settings, you can change the color mode of the display: make the shades more delicate or bright, warm or cold. You can also reduce PWM flicker, select the size of the font and elements on the screen. The manufacturer emphasizes that the smartphone has a certified blue filter. The model emits very little of it, which means that the user strains his eyes less.

There is also an Always on Display function that allows you to display the time, date and battery power on the screen without consuming battery power. You can customize the running time of the feature and the clock display option.

The screen works with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. This means that the animation in the interface is as smooth and dynamic as possible.

Software and performance

Reno4 Pro 5G runs ColorOS 7.2 based on Android 10. In this version of the shell, the manufacturer has improved the quality of night shooting and optimized power saving.

The animation is fast, the interface is not satisfactory - once again we respect the refresh rate of 90 Hz. The smartphone has an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor. This is a sub-flagship solution with 5G support, which is not yet relevant for Russia. The amount of RAM - 12 GB, built-in - 256 GB. There is enough hardware for demanding games like World of Tanks: Blitz at maximum settings, simpler applications work even better.

Sound and vibration

The model received dual linear stereo speakers equipped with Dolby Atmos technology. It transmits even the slightest noise and allows you to make the sound especially spacious. Be sure to select Movie mode when watching a movie, this will deepen your immersion in the plot. The speakers are loud, but sometimes the sound lacks balance - we put a solid four. There is no audio jack, but the included headphones can be connected via USB Type ‑ C.

The vibration is also okay: noticeable, but not overly powerful.

Camera

The quality of the shooting is declared as one of the main competitive advantages of the model. The smartphone received a triple camera with laser autofocusing: a 48 megapixel main module, a 12-megapixel wide-angle with a 120-degree view and a 13 megapixel telephoto lens.

Wide angle lens

The 2x zoom works well, but at 5x the picture comes out too noisy and grainy. Inside small spaces, it is very convenient to shoot with a wide-angle module: due to it, more objects and details are placed in the frame. By the way, the manufacturer did not skimp on autofocus, it is available in all cameras.

During the day, the smartphone shoots great: the camera quickly focuses even on the smallest objects, the colors are juicy and bright. In macro photography, a soft and smooth bokeh effect is noticeable. You can change ISO, white balance and shutter speed - in general, shooting is a pleasure. Portrait mode works well, but it often blurs your hair along with the background.

But the night is dark and full of horrors: already at dusk, the frames lose their sharpness, small details are blurred. When shooting a face, you have two options: dazzle yourself with the flash, or get the darkest, most grainy image possible.

Reno4 Pro 5G allows you to shoot 4K video at 30 frames per second. The model will help out all those who always shake hands: optical stabilization improves the quality of shooting when shaking.

There is also a night video recording function, but this does not save you from noise.

Autonomy

The smartphone supports 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 super fast charging. Thanks to it, the Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G charges more than half in 15 minutes. The total capacity of the battery is 4000 mAh, which is enough for a day. In addition to the power saving mode, there is super power saving, which allows you to extend the operating time by several hours. Just keep in mind that in this case, system performance will decrease and you will be able to run only a couple of applications at the same time.

In general, the smartphone can easily withstand the web-surfing in social networks, watching YouTube and listening to music on public transport. By the end of the day of full use, we have 20% of the battery left.

Outcomes

In Russian stores, a smartphone costs 59,990 rubles. For this money, you get a cute design, an NFC module, a battery with fast charging and a triple camera. The latter is both a plus and a minus of the model: daytime shots delight with clarity and instant focus, but evening shots are full of unnecessary noise and poorly convey details. It could have been better. On the other hand, not everyone dreams of being a guru of night photography. For all other day-to-day needs, the Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G is great.
