Apple is preparing to show new smartphones this fall. Quite a lot is known about the upcoming models even before the official presentation.

Apple's new product season is approaching. At the September presentation, three models should be presented: improved versions of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus (tentative names - 7S and 7S Plus) and a completely new premium smartphone (tentative name - 8, X or Pro). There is little information about the characteristics, but some of the distinctive features of the models are already known.

What is known about the iPhone 8

This year, the iPhone turns 10, and Apple is preparing for this anniversary the release of the model with the most dramatic innovations in recent years.

Specifications

Appearance

iPhone 8 (as it is most often called in the media) will receive an enlarged oblong 5, 8-inch display with minimal bezels along the edges of the front panel. Reducing the edges will keep the actual size of the device almost the same as the 4.7-inch iPhone 7, while increasing the display.

The iPhone 8 will likely lack the white version. Some sources claim that the color scheme will consist of several mirror shades.

No physical button at the bottom of the screen is planned. Instead, it will use the display functionality in iOS 11. The power button will be enlarged, but it's unclear why.

Connectors

Renders confirm that a headphone jack will not be present on the new model. Lightning will remain, although there have been rumors of its disappearance. It is possible that USB Type-C will also be supported as part of the general movement towards high-speed charging standards.

Frame

The iPhone 8 is expected to receive a tempered glass main unit and stainless steel bezel. The waterproof performance will be improved.

Display

The novelty is promised a curved screen, as well as the first OLED display in Apple smartphones. It is because of this innovation that delays in the delivery of the iPhone 8 occur. Also, the smartphone is predicted to have a resolution of 2,436 × 1,125 with a depth of 521 PPI - a significant improvement over existing models.

ID

It looks like the new iPhone will still lack Touch ID. Rumors about including this feature in the power button have not yet been confirmed, and the chances of its presence inside the display are rather small. The alternative will be Face ID, the first generation facial recognition technology. It is not yet clear if Apple will be able to solve the problem of insensitivity of algorithms to sunglasses and colored lenses.

Loudspeakers

Changes from the iPhone 7 also apply to audio performance. The new model will have two stereo speakers: at the bottom and an improved telephone.

Camera

The main camera of the iPhone 8 will have two sensors in a vertical arrangement with optical stabilization on both. The exact specifications are unknown. Analysts predict the presence of an infrared module with a 3D sensor for the front camera. This innovation will be used in facial recognition and the creation of 3D selfies, which can be part of augmented reality.

Battery and charging

Along with traditional Lightning, inductive wireless technology will be used for charging. And the battery life will probably be significantly increased compared to the iPhone 7. It is also likely that wireless charging will not be available in the original kit upon purchase and will only appear with the iOS 11 update.

Timing

Information from suppliers, Apple partners and other sources suggests that the iPhone 8 will only be released in late October or early November. At the same time, a small number of smartphones are expected to be released for limited sale. The final new iPhone will be released at the end of the year. The shortage and overpricing will be exacerbated by the pre-New Year and Christmas race for gifts.

Price

iPhone 8 will be the most expensive smartphone in Apple history. The starting price is $ 1,100-1,200.

What is known about the iPhone 7S

Apple's S-series smartphones traditionally represent improvements in some characteristics without significantly changing the appearance and basic specifications. Let's make a reservation that 7S and 7S Plus are not official names yet, but conditional names for future iPhones.

Specifications

The updated versions of the seventh iPhone externally practically will not differ from the existing models. 4, 7 and 5, 5-inch smartphones will have aluminum frames and tempered glass casing. The dimensions, display, shape and appearance of the panels are likely to be identical to the existing 7 and 7 Plus.

The difference - the case is made of tempered glass instead of aluminum - will make wireless charging possible. The update will focus on improving internals and increasing performance.

Price

The price is likely to remain the same as the 7 and 7 Plus. Apple will be interested in the low cost of these models, as another novelty is expected at a rather inflated price.

Timing

The iPhone 7 and 7s should hit the mainstream a couple of weeks after the official launch. No delays are expected.

Plans for the future

In 2018, Apple plans to equip all of its smartphones with OLED technology. Only the expensive eighth model will receive it this year. OLED is considered to be better and more modern LCD-displays, which will have more budget 7S and 7S Plus. In 2018, the next model (codenamed 9) will be presented with an OLED display with a diagonal of 5, 28 and 6, 46 inches.
