1. Remember that your career depends only on you

When I got a job at a large company shortly after my 25th birthday, I assumed that some higher intelligence would simply move me from position to position until my career dreams came true. I myself did little.

Don't fall into this trap. Yes, sometime others will help you, but your future depends on you.

Know what you want and take the initiative.

2. Choose your path yourself

Only you yourself can decide what is important to you. Move towards the career and life that you yourself want, and not that others expect of you. Then you will be happy with your life, and in old age you will not have to regret that you did not have the courage to go your own way.

3. Do not seek the approval of others, be true to yourself

The approval of others is extrinsic motivation. It doesn't mean anything and will only rob you of your confidence. If success is equal to approval for you, you will never achieve it. Act to be true to yourself.

4. Know that your definition of success will change

25 years ago, I believed that success was getting promoted as quickly and often as possible. Now I see him as serving something greater than myself. Then it would not have occurred to me.

5. Charge others with energy, do not take it away

Those who charge others with enthusiasm and optimism tend to attract success. But he does not come to pessimists, gossips and people with a negative attitude.

6. Remember that character manifests itself in times of difficulty

It's easy to win over people when everything is good. But how will you prove yourself in a critical situation? Be sure others will remember how you behaved. Use these moments to show your best.

Do not rush to colleagues, do not shift the blame to them if you make a mistake. It will only ruin the relationship.

7. Promote Others When You Promote Yourself

It's nice to climb the career ladder. But do not forget to help others while doing this. Use the new position not only for your own purposes, improve the lives of others. Success comes back a hundredfold when you help people develop in their field.

8. The only one with whom you should compare yourself is you yesterday

Constantly comparing yourself to others, you will not achieve success, but only make yourself unhappy. Try to be better than you were yesterday. To do this, put learning and development first. The most unfortunate stages in my career are the times when I did not study and did not develop.

9. The biggest risk in a career is not to take risks at all

The first female admiral of the US Navy, Grace Hopper, once said: "The ship in the port is safe, but ships are not built for that."

Success very often depends on a willingness to take risks, learn lessons, and move forward.

10. Know how to replace hard work

By relentless hard work! There is no other way to succeed. Add to this a little patience and perseverance, temper in the fire of life's difficulties and get fortitude.

11. Deliver the policy to politicians

Do your best work, using all your abilities, and leave the politics less capable. Yes, sometimes she helps someone to advance in their careers. But you have to pay for it. Think about whether you really need it.

12. Strive to leave a legacy

During my career, I have achieved success in many positions. Because I always thought about what I would leave behind, how I would influence others. Be sure to ask yourself these questions when you are in a new position.
