Garmin calls the new product a “smart multisport GPS watch”. In fact, this is an uncompromising option for both athletes and tourists. Plus, it's just a pretty and functional smartwatch. In many ways, the Fenix 3 is similar to its predecessor. The shape, the abundance of sensors, the connection with a smartphone via Bluetooth and many indicators exclusively for athletes - all this migrated here from its predecessor.
Of the cool innovations here, first of all, the new 1, 2-inch color screen, which replaced the monochrome Fēnix 2. According to the manufacturer, the information on it is perfectly readable both in the sun and in the dark. Another important change is the support for the promising software platform Connect IQ, which, apparently, will soon become common for the entire line of Garmin gadgets. Applications from AccuWeather, smart calendar Tempo and several other small projects have already been announced.
Fēnix 3's functionality deserves top praise. In addition to GPS, they have support for the more accurate Russian GLONASS system. If you're looking for a daily fitness tracker, Fēnix 3 will count your steps and notify you if you are not physically active by recommending a walk or some exercise.
If you are an athlete or choose this watch for a triathlon, then it will delight you with constant monitoring of heart rate, number of strokes while swimming, calculating the time to recover from training, determining VO2 max, prepared scripts for displaying information for different sports and joint LiveTrack workouts. Active tourists will find here a compass, barometer and altimeter - indispensable for traveling.
The watch connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth. They will notify you of incoming calls, messages and emails. Other nice features include the ability to dive with Fēnix 3 to depths of up to 100 meters and a battery life of 20 hours with GPS tracking turned on.
The only thing that can be a hindrance for those who want to buy Garmin Fēnix 3 is the price. The company offers you a watch in three configurations. The rubber strap option costs $500 and is the cheapest. By adding $50, you can buy the same watch but with an optional chest heart rate monitor. More on $50 more expensive is the version of Fēnix 3 with a steel bracelet and a dial protected by a sapphire crystal.
