The SOCKS5 network protocol allows data to be sent discreetly from the client to the server. The feature is already available in Telegram for Windows and macOS. In the near future, it will appear in the mobile versions of the messenger.
It is recommended that you enable SOCKS5 before the blocking takes effect. After that, downloading the application from Google Play and the App Store will most likely become problematic. You will have to use VPN-services to enter the store “from another country”.
To increase your chances of getting the latest version of Telegram, enable automatic app updates. If you use Android, then in the operating system settings, allow downloading updates from third-party sources and download the update from the official website of the messenger.
How to set up SOCKS5 in Telegram
- Open the settings of the desktop version of the messenger and find "Advanced Settings".
- Change the Connection type to TCP with custom socks5-proxy.
- Enter the proxy server address and port. We advise you to use an American, German, Swedish or English proxy.
- It remains to check the box "Use IPv6" (Try connecting through IPv6) and save the settings.
