How long will your iPhone last in power saving mode

We all know how power saving mode works and whether it is inherently efficient. But to find out how significant the difference between Normal and Power Saving modes is, Wired ran a small test and measured the power consumption of the iPhone 6 in each mode under two different usage scenarios.

To get data on the "gluttony" of these modes, Rhett Alleyn charged the smartphone to the maximum and assumed that after a full charge, the iPhone would consume energy only to ensure operability. At the same time, Rett neglected the power loss of the AC converter.

Then, in each mode, he took two measurements: 400 seconds of standby mode, where he reproduced the usual operation of the phone with the received email, and the same period of time during which Rhett checked social networks, launched his usual applications and surfed the web. Power consumption results were collected in real time with a Watts Up Pro power meter.

As a result, in power-saving mode, his iPhone used 80% of its usual power when idle and 90% under load. To improve the accuracy of measurements, Rhett increased the test time to 30 minutes, but only in standby mode. The smartphone used 70% of its normal power consumption.

To summarize, Rhett says that on average, a smartphone in energy-saving mode will work 1, 43 times longer than usual. That is, if you usually squeeze 14 hours of use out of your iPhone, it will live up to 20 hours in economy mode. If you turn on this mode only when the charge decreases to 20% - count on an additional hour.
