After a rather long break, I again went to a sports club and there I fully felt the "delights" of working while sitting. Despite the fact that I walk quite a lot with my child, I still spend most of my time sitting at the computer. And only during training did I feel how my back hurts, how "wooden" it has become. I generally keep quiet about the hands.

And, as always, the universe heard my groans and threw up an interesting article by Gina Trapani about working at a computer while standing.

Gina Trapani is a technical writer and web developer who spends most of her time sitting at a computer. In her Smarterware article, she talks about how she transitioned to standing at a computer.

As has long been known, when sitting at a table for a long time, blood circulation is impaired in the lower part of the body, women may have problems with veins in their legs (especially in the leg-to-leg position), and the work of the pelvic organs is also disrupted. None of us sit perfectly at the table, so in addition to everything, the back and neck suffer. And the back is a "head" for all organs. From the side we look like vultures sitting at the table - the neck is stretched forward, the back is often hunched over, the legs swell, the butt takes the shape of a chair.

Gina redesigned her desk in such a way that it was possible to work at it while standing.

At first she worked standing up for several hours, and then sat down again. My legs hurt, my back and neck hurt too. But gradually the body was rebuilt, posture improved. Plus, standing up burns extra calories.

But here I would like to make a small comment. The fact is that standing up all the time is also not very useful. For example, hairdressers quite often have problems with their legs due to the fact that they spend all day on their feet. As well as those who spend almost their entire working day at the counter. Therefore, in my opinion, the ideal workplace is when you can alternate between working standing and sitting behind it. Firstly, it is good for the health of the back and legs, and secondly, it allows you to switch the brain and burn calories.

Sergei Petrenko also has a wonderful table with an adjustable table top. He alternates between standing work and sitting work, and so far, apparently, is satisfied.

Particularly advanced people work at the computer not while standing, but on a treadmill. But for me personally, this is an almost impossible task.
