Tidal is a music streaming service. It differs from others in the quality of the tracks: here you can listen to them in FLAC format. We have been using the service for several weeks and would like to share our impressions with you.
There are two events that made almost everyone know about Tidal. At least for those who are interested in music.
The first is a launch on the service, the results of which made it clear whether you should listen to high-quality music or not. The test is really interesting and checks not only the quality of the equipment, but also your hearing.
The second is the purchase of the Jay-Z service. The formal relaunch was attended by Coldplay, Rihanna, Kanye West, Jack White and other musicians. They have all signed a contract to publish their new and old content exclusively on Tidal.
This does not mean that now we will not be able to listen to the new Coldplay album on Google Music or buy it on iTunes. But it is possible that there they will appear with a slight delay after being published on Tidal.
So Tidal.
Why Tidal isn't cool
It's about the price. The service is distributed by subscription, and there are two of them: Premium and HiFi.
- Premium. Costs $ 9.99 per month and offers regular sound quality. Same as other streaming services.
- HiFi. A highlight of Tidal. Costs $ 19.99 per month and allows you to listen to music in FLAC format.
These two types of subscription, besides the price, differ from each other only in sound quality. I would not buy a Premium subscription, since it does not give anything in comparison with the same Google Music service, the use of which will cost 250 rubles.
With HiFi, it's not that simple. I am sure that on good equipment the difference in sound will be enormous. Unfortunately, I can't think of a reason for those who love good sound to stop downloading FLAC music from torrents and switch to Tidal.
The service does not yet have applications for Mac and Windows. You can listen to music only from mobile devices or using the web version.
Why Tidal is cool
Perhaps there is only one reason - the sound quality. Tidal is the only streaming service that plays music in the 1,411 kbps FLAC format. These are dry numbers, so I'll tell you about my experience of use.
The first month of using Tidal is free, and for me this period is already coming to an end. I have frankly weak headphones. By comparison, they sound only slightly better than the standard EarPods.
I heard the difference in sound in comparison with Google Music right away. It is not large, but I did not even count on that. The main difference is that the sound in Tidal is thicker and more crisp. Alas, this is not enough advantage, given the shortcomings of the service.
