The Basetrip started out as a mini-project for one country. The creator of the service was going to Europe for several months and chose warm Portugal for rest. Before the trip, he pretty much strained Google with a series of queries: "currency of Portugal", "visa to Portugal", "weather in Portugal" and everything in the same spirit. At some point, the traveler realized that it would be nice to collect all the information in one place.

This is how structured information about one country appeared on The Basetrip. Then the European states were added, and later the whole world. Now the site contains over 230 separate territorial entities, including not the most famous ones. For example, the island of Martinique or the overseas community of Saint Pierre and Miquelon.
