Some fibers die off, especially if the muscles are not loaded with exercise. Sedentary adults lose 30 to 40% of their total muscle fiber by age 80. The remaining fibers shrink and atrophy with age. If we exercise, the size of the atrophied muscle fibers increases, but not their number.

It turns out that despite training, you will not increase the number of muscle fibers. However, the atrophied fibers will start working and grow in size, so the muscles will still get bigger and stronger.
