6 worst things you can do on New Year's Eve
6 worst things you can do on New Year's Eve

This article is part of the Auto-da-fe project. In it, we declare war on everything that prevents people from living and becoming better: breaking laws, believing in nonsense, deceit and fraud. If you've come across a similar experience, share your stories in the comments.

1. Break the law

To the laws in Russia, and so the attitude is peculiar. And the holidays seem to give an indulgence to break them. For example, if a wedding cortege passes on the red road and creates emergency situations, many will react to this with understanding, although there can be no excuses here.

New Year is a common holiday, which means there are much more potential violators. This is not necessarily about criminal offenses. But petty hooliganism or fights also do not pass without consequences. And for some, obviously, there is an illusion that the laws of nature cease to operate at the same time on holidays. Nothing else can explain the passion for launching fireworks from balconies, which often leads to fires. This, by the way, is prohibited by fire safety requirements.

So law enforcement officers (and nature) have their own opinion about the festive liberties. For administrative offenses, you can be fined or arrested, for criminal liability will be more serious. To avoid problems, behave within the law.

2. Get drunk

Alcohol is always harmful and in any quantity. But on New Year's holidays, libations are also stretched out in time for the whole night, or even for several days in a row.

The consequences can be disappointing. First, this is a serious blow to the body. The liver is especially affected. She is already experiencing an increased load due to New Year's overeating, and they also slip alcohol into her for processing. So the holiday break could end at the hospital.

Secondly, in a state of intoxication, people perform various actions that a sober would never have dared to do. They call the ex, spend their savings, climb over the balcony railing. Finally, in an alcoholic stupor, crimes are committed: in January, every third lawbreaker was drunk.

Third, you risk getting drunk and just missing out on all the fun.

3. Spend New Year's Eve with the wrong people

Probably, everyone knows the story: friends invite you to celebrate the New Year, but they will also have people who are unpleasant to you. Or you go at the call of your partner in karaoke, although your ears begin to bleed from the very thought of singing drunken visitors. Or you are used to considering this holiday a family one and all night long answering tactless questions from relatives why you lost weight or gained weight, when you make your parents happy with your grandchildren and who are you such a bad guy born into.

Naturally, this is how the holiday turns into a duty that must be experienced. At best, it will lead to a spoiled mood, at worst - to a decrease in self-esteem and a depressive state.

But there is good news: you can choose where and with whom to celebrate the New Year.

You don't have to follow tradition or be persuaded. If a partner pulls you into unpleasant company, try to find another option that will appeal to both of you. There are no rules and traditions that cannot be changed.

4. Make unrealistic New Year promises

Making plans for next year and trying to be better is good. But often people imagine that, under the chimes, they will turn into a robot model T-800 and will be able to absolutely whatever they have in mind. But even the Terminator had its weaknesses, what can we say about such ordinary us. As a result, not all promises are fulfilled, and this is annoying and hurts self-esteem. Especially if you have shared your intentions publicly.

A year is a fairly long period during which a lot can happen. When making promises to yourself, take risks.

Let's say if you decide to run in the morning every day, this is a plan that is doomed to fail. The weather, colds, business trips and the urgent need to help a friend lower the piano from the 12th floor at seven in the morning will surely intervene. A plan to run three times a week in the morning sounds more realistic. And if you overfulfill it, well, you will rejoice more.

5. To overdo it in preparing for the holiday

Cooking New Year's meals can take several days. A variety of salads, jellied meat, cake - a lot of effort is spent on this, and you also need to get out. At best, responsibilities are divided equally among household members, at worst, they fall on the shoulders of one person. And not everyone can bear such a burden.

The tradition of preparing a million dishes for the New Year's table has remained with us since the times when there was no abundance of food and it was necessary to get them. Some dishes could only be enjoyed on holidays, so there was a sense in their quantity: now or never. But in the 21st century, any product can be bought almost all year round, so is it worth the effort. Moreover, the stomach is able to accommodate a limited amount of food.

Of course, eating last year's salads on the morning of January 1 is a special treat. But no one will suffer if there are not 18, but one or two. But everyone will come to the table rested, cheerful, without circles under the eyes and hatred of all living things.

6. Forget about safety

In January, about 18 thousand more Russians die than in other months, and mainly on New Year's holidays. This is partly due to alcohol consumption, but not only.

The point is general carelessness. Candles placed next to a Christmas tree or other flammable objects, unextinguished cigarette butts can cause a fire, too light clothing out of season can cause frostbite. It is not uncommon for people to find themselves locked on a balcony without jackets. But most dangerous of all is pyrotechnics. If you do not follow safety precautions, you can be seriously injured.

So it's better not to forget about safety.
