Yesterday, the Chinese hacker team Pangu finally released the Mac version of the Pangu8 jailbreak utility for iPhones and iPads running iOS 8-8.1. Version 1.0 for OS X has already been translated into English and contains Cydia, so the jailbreak should be straightforward. In this post, we'll show you how to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad on iOS 8-8.1.
All actions described below you perform at your own peril and risk. We are not responsible for the performance of your devices.
Before you start
Before starting the procedure, you should know that:
- Need to turn off Lock or Touch ID passcode and Find my iPhone
- It is imperative to restore the iOS 8.1 firmware via iTunes (if you updated over the air, the jailbreak will not work)
- It is highly recommended to back up your device via iTunes in order to recover to a usable state if necessary.
Supported devices and firmware
The list of supported devices is as follows:
- iPhone 6 Plus
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 5c
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 4s
- iPad (2, 3, 4, Air, Air 2)
- iPad mini (1, 2, 3)
- iPod touch 5
The following firmwares are supported:
- 8.0
- 8.0.1
- 8.0.2
- 8.1
What do we need
For a successful jailbreak, we need the following things: iTunes 12.0.1 and the Pangu8 utility, which can be downloaded from this link.
Jailbreak procedure
After you make sure that all the steps described above are completed, you can start jailbreak.
- Open the dmg image from Pangu8 and run it.
-
Connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer using a cable and wait for the utility to identify the device.
- Click the button Start jailbreak.
-
The utility will remind you to create a backup and ask you to enable Airplane Mode. Turn it on and press the button Already did.
- The jailbreak process will start and the device will reboot several times. In no case, do not turn it off until the procedure is completed and the inscription appears Jailbreak succeeded!
- Now you can turn off the device. After another reboot, the cherished Cydia icon will appear on the desktop of your iPhone or iPad.
That's all. As you can see, there is nothing complicated here, and if you follow the instructions strictly, you will definitely succeed!
