How to return music to the official VK app for iPad without jailbreak

Once upon a time, you could listen to music in the VK app for iPad. Unfortunately, that time cannot be returned, unlike the function of listening to music. In the official app, free of charge, no registration or SMS!

I will say right away that the method is not easy, but with due attention, you will succeed. Its principle is to spoof the iTunes request using Charles' proxy debugger and download any version of the application, not just the latest one. The function of listening to music from the VK application disappeared after version 2.0, so we will install it with you. For the sake of this, you can get confused, don't you agree? Then let's get started.

Step 1

Download the utility (Windows version is also available). It is paid, but there is a trial period, this will be enough for us. Install, run it and enter the administrator password to configure the proxy.

Step 2

Open iTunes and start downloading the application that you want to rollback, and pause the download.

Step 3

We return to Charles. Find on the Sequence tab the line pXX-buy.itunes.apple.com (XX is a two-digit number, it changes with each request) and, calling the menu with the right mouse click, click Enable SSL Proxying.

Step 4

We remove the application from downloads, return to its page and update it. The download button will become active again, and the caption will change from “Loading” to “Download”.

Start downloading and cancel the download again.

In Charles, we find the line pXX-buy.itunes.apple.com that appears below (with a globe icon, not a lock), open it and select the buyProduct file.

We make a right click on buyProduct, click on the Export pop-up menu and save it in any convenient place by choosing the XML Summary File format.

Step 8

Now open our XML file in any text editor and find the line softwareVersionExternalIdentifiers. Below it there will be a long (or not so) list of identifiers responsible for downloading a particular version. Above - the oldest, and below, respectively, the last. The required version will have to be selected empirically. Copy one of the identifiers and move on to the next step.

Step 9

Return to Charles, right click on buyProduct again and select Edit to change the identifier.

Step 10

Switch to the Text tab and replace the numbers under the appExtVrsId line with the ID copied in the eighth step. Click on Execute.

Step 11

A new file we edited will appear under the buyProduct file, which will open immediately. We are looking for the string bundleShortVersionString in it, immediately below it there will be the version number of the application. We check with him and, if necessary, repeat the procedure until we find the one we need (for iPad -15954085). I was lucky, I guessed right the second time.

Step 12

Now, right click on the created buyProduct file and click Breakpoints.

Step 13

We return to iTunes again, update the page with the application and start the download. We will immediately be thrown to the Charles pop-up window, where we will be prompted to change the request.

Step 14

Switch to the Edit Request tab in XML Text mode and change the identifier to the one you defined in the 11th step. Click on Execute.

Step 15

Another popup will appear. We don't change anything here, just click Execute.

Step 16

We return to iTunes and see that our application is loading. And not the latest version, but the one we need!

Step 17

To check this, open the application properties in the "My Programs" tab. As you can see, the year is 2015, but version 2.0, released in 2012.

Step 18

All that remains is to connect the iPad using a cable and install the application.

That's all. We got what we wanted. VK 2.0 works great on iOS 9.2, doesn't crash and of course allows you to listen to your music both in the app and in the background.

As you can imagine, the same can be done with absolutely any application. The main thing is to have it in the App Store. If the application is removed from the store by the developer or Apple, nothing, alas, will work.

Hard? I would not say. For a long time? Also no, it will take about half an hour (although you can manage it faster). Is it worth it? Well, it's up to you to decide!
