iPhone is getting old quickly

I can't immediately launch apps on my iPhone 6 Plus. Most of them throw an error. And if they open, then with a long delay. The battery runs out quickly. At the same time, technical support says that everything is in order with her.

Remember how Apple admitted to slowing down smartphones with old batteries? Yes, the company has released a new version of iOS where you can disable this option. But this decision is more like trying to avoid legal costs than taking care of users.

When I try to shoot a video, I only see a black screen. Taking a photo is also problematic: it takes forever for the application to open. In addition, the shutter does not release immediately.

This phone worked very well three years ago. Now, the terrible user experience far outweighs the minimal benefits from the updates that Apple is releasing.

I have the original Moto X (2013) and it still works flawlessly.

Apple support is incompetent

The incident that happened to me is not related to the iPhone. However, it is indicative. A leg on my MacBook recently broke off. It was still under AppleCare warranty, so I went to the store. There I was told that they would not cover the replacement of the leg, as it is a consumable item. True, but in my case I would have to change the entire lower part of the case, which costs $ 250.

I told an Apple representative that I would call AppleCare support to sort out the issue. And he asked to make an application. The employee replied that he had already done so.

Later, I contacted technical support, and the employee said by phone that they had already replaced my leg. At the same time, he does not see any application in the database.

I had to go back to the store to have an Apple representative inspect the laptop again and confirm that the leg was missing. Later, I called tech support again so that they would double-check the application and confirm it. This time it worked out.

I asked to send the part to the Apple store that was closest to my home. A week later, they called me and said that the spare part had arrived. True, she was brought to a store on the other side of the city. I asked to send it to the outlet at the specified address. The technical support told me that they would have to return the part first to the warehouse, and then the store staff should place an order. And only in this case will she get to them.

After another week, the spare part finally arrived where it needed to be. After a couple of hours of waiting, a store employee returned my MacBook. I examined him and saw that the leg was still broken. The manager left again and returned with a repaired laptop five minutes later.

It turns out that not only did they not repair it the first time, but they also kept me for two hours instead of several minutes.

If you want to change the battery on your iPhone, you may have to wait several weeks. Nowadays, you can't live without a smartphone for so long. Therefore, the question remains open: is it the incompetence of some employees or the company deliberately forces people to refuse official support?

Outdated design

Even the iPhone X looks dated compared to the Samsung Galaxy S8. This is rather subjective, but the S8 feels much better in the hands. When I watch movies, the OLED screen merges with the body of the smartphone due to the perfect black color. It looks like a science fiction phone. While the screen of the iPhone X is enclosed in a fairly wide frame.

For comparison:

  • Galaxy S8 - 5.8 inches, Super AMOLED with a resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels (pixel density 570 dpi), brightness - 1000 nits, screen-to-body ratio - 83.6 percent.
  • iPhone X - 5.8 inches, True Tone OLED with 2436 x 1125 pixels (458 ppi pixel density), 625 nits brightness, 82.9 percent screen-to-body ratio.

But the most frustrating thing is the monobrow. Because of it, some of the information on the screen is lost. For example, while surfing the Internet.

Android and Galaxy S8 have better functionality

1. Autocomplete in LastPass. Of course, this is a feature of the application, but it does not work well on the iPhone. It was like I was on a quest when I set up my smartphone.

2. NFC for two-factor authentication. You can use YubiKey on iPhone, but it requires a dongle device, which is extremely inconvenient.

3. Slot for SD cards. I ran out of space on my previous iPhone. The only way out is to buy a new phone.

4. Safe places to unlock. A very useful feature. Thanks to it, you do not have to constantly enter your phone password at home or at work.

5. Samsung Pay works on any terminal except ATMs, Apple Pay does not.

6. Android notifications are better implemented.

7. No need to buy a headphone jack.

8. You can choose how to unlock your phone: password, finger or face.

9. Additional options to save battery.

10. Gear VR.

11. Built-in spam filtering program.

12. Additional hardware button. It's about the side key that brings up Bixby. With bxActions you can configure it to include a flashlight.

13. On Android, making a backup is much easier. You don't need to install iTunes or pay for iCloud to do this.

14. The phone will not go into sleep mode while you are looking at it.

There is no customization on iOS

You can customize any Android smartphone for yourself: install applications that automatically update your wallpaper, a new launcher or a more convenient phone book. But the main thing is that you don't have to download them from the official store.

Synchronization in Google Photo works an order of magnitude better than in the Apple service.

Custom keyboards on Android are no worse than the official ones. While on iOS, third-party keyboards do not work well.

iOS doesn't offer anything that Android can, because Apple deliberately limits developer options.

Apple is not the same

Apple has always taken someone else's work and perfected it. Recently, the company has simply been languidly following its competitors. Their products do not stand out except for the price. But at the same time they offer the same opportunities as the others.

For example, Samsung devices have supported wireless charging for a while now. Apple only recently joined.

Samsung is experimenting with VR and DeX. These are not ideal products. However, Apple is unable to envision the technology of the dream.

The “innovative features” that Apple boasts are also not impressive. Animoji is a dubious thing. Moreover, it can be implemented without TrueDepth technology. It was pure marketing to sell more iPhone X. Force Touch has been around for years, but who's using it?

Apple smartphones don't deserve their money. I will buy Android devices until Steve Jobs's company shows itself up again.
