All I want from an umbrella, and I think that most people will agree with me, is that it fulfills its main functions, and at the same time is reliable, safe, durable (practically, for centuries).

The inventor of the Blunt umbrellas, New Zealand design engineer Greig Brebner was angry that his eye was nearly gouged out by an umbrella during a downpour. He began to improve the safety of umbrellas, but in the end he improved other equally important indicators (strength and reliability).

The Blunt is Engineer Greig's pride. It has improved the structure and aerodynamic properties of the umbrella, so that it will not tear, break or twist even in very strong gusty winds, leaving you alone with the elements.

The main aspects and details that make the structure so strong are:

1. Radial Tensioning System, which gives the canopy a strong tension.

   

2. Double Struts, which distribute the force applied when opening the umbrella, onto the Floating Ribs of a special fiberglass design. The spokes are called floating because they do not have a rigid connection. In strong gusts of wind, the rigid attachment would rip out the spokes or tear the fabric of the umbrella. In our case, the dome is attached to the spokes with Velcro, and in the seats the spokes have a small backlog. They are not rigidly fixed. This is one of the reasons why Blunt does not break with sharp gusts of wind.

   

3. The knitting needles, in turn, transmit force to the Blunt Tips, which are a kind of miniature umbrellas that open in special pockets, evenly distributing the load received from the needles along the edge of the dome.

   

All these innovations work together to provide the umbrella with incredible durability and performance in poor weather conditions.

The innovations affected not only the strength and aerodynamic properties of the umbrella. The umbrella opening / closing system has also been improved. The process takes place in a semi-automatic mode. To open the umbrella, it is enough to apply a small force to the sleeve, giving it acceleration, and the umbrella will open further easily.

Design. Fetish. Package

A moment of joy for lovers of design in all its forms. The creators of Blunt devoted a lot of time to this aspect, and not only the design of the product itself, but also its packaging.

The umbrella comes in a large black silk-screened tube. If you suddenly decide to donate such an umbrella, then the packaging alone will impress the recipient. Although it has one drawback - it is too tightly closed, and it is problematic to open it the first time.

The second layer is a cover in which it is convenient to carry the umbrella, throwing it over your shoulder.

The cover has an adjustable handle length and a padded shoulder pad.

"Has it become fashionable to walk with umbrellas again?" - this is the first question I received while holding Blunt in my hands when entering the office building in which I work. It is laconic, but, nevertheless, attracts attention. Of the unusual details - the rounded shape at the ends of the needles, which we wrote about above. The knitting pockets at the bottom are highlighted in a darker color.

Velcro is standard.

The brand logo is applied on the umbrella handle. Material - plastic, pleasant to the touch. The only drawback of the handle is the lack of a wrist strap.

Blunt is currently using the best technology in the umbrella world. Its structural strength has been compared to St. Peter's Basilica, suspension bridges and NASA's space station.

I think the price for Blunt is justified and I expect a lifetime of at least 5 years. I'm not guessing anymore, but I know one thing - we are not rich enough to buy cheap things that break and need to be replaced every season.
