Smart search for the right places, quick taxi call, panoramas from the past and more.
1. Search for public transport
In large cities, the Yandex. Maps mobile application can be used to search for public transport. The service shows in real time where buses, trolleybuses, trams and minibuses are.
To do this, the "Moving vehicle" layer must be activated in the application settings. On the map, its display is turned on by clicking on the bus icon in the drop-down list of layers in the upper left corner.
2. Smart search in public catering
To find a place to dine or just take coffee with you, you don't have to open the “Where to eat” category of places and go through the suggested establishments nearby. In the search box, you can simply type what you need. For example, "business lunch", "rolls", "coffee". Such queries will significantly narrow the range of options and will significantly reduce the search time.
3. Zooming the map with the volume keys
In the Android version of the application, users can change the size of the map using the volume keys. This is very convenient when using the smartphone with one hand or in any other situation where you cannot use the pinch zoom.
Scaling can be applied both by short pressing and by long holding of one of the buttons. In the latter case, the approach or departure will be smoother. The option is enabled in the settings of the "Map" section.
4. Finding free Wi-Fi
If there is no mobile Internet, the Yandex. Maps application can help you find a hotspot with free Wi-Fi. You just need to pre-load a city map to work offline and then type in the search "wifi" or "wi-fi".
With mobile internet, queries can be more complex. For example, you can search for "bar with wi-fi", "hookah with wi-fi" and so on.
5. Fast taxi call
Not everyone knows that with the help of Yandex. Maps, you can instantly go to the Yandex. Taxi service by calling a car to a specified destination. To do this, you just need to build a route and move the list of travel options to the left by opening the taxi icon.
When you click, a button to call the car will appear, which will take you to the Yandex. Taxi application, where a route will be built to the same point as on Maps. You just have to choose a tariff and start a search.
6. Caller ID
One simple switch in the main settings allows Yandex. Maps to determine from which organization they call you. Of course, this will only work with those companies that are on the maps and that have indicated their contact phone number. To activate this feature, you need permission to display pop-ups.
Such a qualifier will allow you not to waste time on calls from various commercial organizations offering their products and services that you are not at all interested in.
7. Panoramas from the past
The "Panoramas" map layer allows you to literally travel to any available place to look around and check for any visual cues. Its interesting feature is the ability to view images from many years ago, which allows you to find out how the place looked 5 or even 10 years ago.
To do this, go to the "Panoramas" layer, specify a point on the map and, after opening the image, select another available year in the upper left corner. Such a journey into the past is not available for all areas of the map, since the coverage of Yandex. Panoram was not always as wide as it is now.
