There have been a lot of fitness trackers and smartwatches lately - almost everyone can find a gadget to their liking. However, bursting into some electronics store with the idea of buying something for yourself quickly, you can get lost in the variety of colors and shapes - that's how there really are a lot of them. And yet, some have managed to stand out.

Probably the best advice to a person who decides to decorate (or equip - also a question) his wrist with something like a bracelet is the following: answer the question why you need it. Once you have defined your goals, you can narrow your search based on functionality. It can be a pedometer, heart rate monitor, or an advanced alarm clock.

Today, on our table, we have something in between a fitness tracker and a smartwatch - a wrist device that still has a fundamental difference from an army of its kind.

What is this feature? I will not pause theatrical and deliberately procrastinate with the answer: LifeTrak Brite R450 is equipped with a light sensor. Therefore, I suppose, the name of the model contains the word Brite (from English bright - "bright"), written deliberately in a folk way for the sake of fashion. There are not many trackers-bracelets that can track the level of light, but still they are. In the Russian market, from what is presented on the Web, I came across only from Rooti, but it is, rather, a portable weather station.

With the key feature of the device, everything is clear. Let's get back to the sensor and its functions a little later, but for now we will continue to study the watch, which fits comfortably on the wrist (this is true, given that I do not really like wearing watches and any jewelry due to the feeling of something foreign on the body).

LifeTrak R450 is able to:

  • take into account the number of steps taken, calories burned and meters covered;
  • measure the pulse;
  • wake up the owner at the optimal time from the point of view of health - in the shallow phase of sleep, which is automatically determined by the device;
  • display on the bracelet's almost three-centimeter screen notifications about missed calls received on the smartphone, SMS messages, calendar events and social network activity;

this final point must be preceded by a drum roll. We are talking about that very distinctive feature - the light sensor. And you need it, as you probably already guessed, to measure the intensity of lighting. Moreover, both daylight, which is necessary for every person for the normal functioning of the body, and night, the so-called blue light, which has an extremely harmful effect on the production of melatonin. However, from time to time the mobile application with which the device works will tell you about it

So, we briefly walked through the possibilities. Now let's see them in action.

What we liked

1. Design. Unlike most similar bracelet watches, the LifeTrak Brite R450 is not rectangular, but has a nice round shape. The rather large "well" of the screen (it is also round, that's great) is made of chrome-plated steel - it looks pretty good. The glass is also strong-looking: of course, you shouldn't hit on it with a hammer, but when you take a shower (it is allowed to wet it), you don't have to worry about accidentally damaging the bracelet on the tile. There are three buttons that resemble the crowns of chronographs on pilot's watches. This is a good design decision. There are three color options, or rather almost six, since the bracelet strap can be worn on two sides: black and yellow, white and pink and black and gray (for the most conservative).

2. Vibration signal, with which the bracelet informs you about a particular event in your mobile phone. The signal is moderately strong, not frightening or annoying. For the alarm function, in my humble opinion, it fits just perfect. I can only compare the effect of this lifting option with the usual sound signal, which was equipped with most watches of a bygone era. If I simply did not hear the signal on the old Casio, then the LifeTrak R450 is a completely different story: as if you are being lightly shaken by the hand. In short, it really wakes you up, guys!

3. Light sensor. I have already managed to inform you about his role. The function is good, it makes the wristband vibrate again. The signal is accompanied by a notification inscription that appears after it on the screen: GET MORE LIGHT! Say, he woke up, so be so kind as to bring your sleepy body to an upright position and open the curtains, or even the morning sun will not rejoice.

Closer to the night, in accordance with the settings that you have performed on the device, you will receive a reminder GET LESS LIGHT! It's time to turn off all the lights and screens, plunge the room into darkness and sleep. Over the course of a week, I began to gradually get used to this procedure, and this, friends, is a good habit - to live in a mode that is beneficial to health. About the language of all notifications - a separate song: all of them, alas, are in the language of Shakespeare and The Beatles. But more about this misfortune later.

As with many other similar devices, there is a nice feature: when you sit for a long time and are not very active, you will be asked to stir yourself up.

4. No need for constant recharging of the device … This is a relative characteristic, it rather depends on the degree of activity of using a smartphone paired with a bracelet: no sounds are heard, only vibrations. The battery, of course, eats up. declares stable operation on one type of battery for up to three months.

5. Wide functionality. Still, the engineers of Salutron (the company that made this bracelet) managed to fire a volley of buckshot and put a bunch of everything in the shell of their brainchild at once. At least a couple of functions, you will definitely like it, which means that it will be right for you.

You can also download a free iOS or Android app for LifeTrak Brite R450 if you have a smartphone. If not, it's not a problem either: the data on your progress received by the smartwatch can be both synchronized with the mobile application and viewed on the screen of the device itself. You can also send data to the cloud server if you want to.

In general, the application is simple and usable, if some options are set incorrectly, a corresponding prompt will appear. And for those who are in the tank, as Dmitry Efimovich, my favorite school teacher of Russian language and literature, said, a clear instruction is sewn into the application - F. A. Q. Everything is described in detail there for all possible variants of difficulties in communicating with the clock. You can configure the options you need both from the LifeTrak Brite R450 itself and from the application, which is convenient.

About tar spoons in a barrel of honey

Now a little about the shortcomings - there is no other name for it. These are not entirely frank disadvantages, perhaps this was invented for the sake of the price, but it is more than reasonable for such and such a range of all kinds of chips - 6,900 rubles.

People usually don't like what they can't understand. I am not an exception to this rule: I did not manage to appreciate some moments, despite the obvious interest in them. Everything in order below.

1. SleepTrak function, or smart sleep. The title intrigued in itself: for me it is still a category comparable to Steven Spielberg's film "". I try to sleep well: as you know, life is happier that way. However, the bracelet calculated mainly indicators that were not too close to my seven or eight hours of sleep: now five, now about six and a half hours, despite the fact that I got enough sleep.

Regarding these doubts, Salutron has an indication according to which the hours are counted according to the daily scheme: if you slept from ten to eleven in the evening, then an hour will be counted, and if from ten in the evening to eight in the morning, then this time will automatically be added to the total sleep time of the next day. In the graphic display of deep and shallow phases of sleep (exactly as in the proposed calculations of padding night hours), I could not figure it out, which is annoying. That is why this is also a minus: the function is kind of cool, but what to do with it in a practical sense is unclear.

2. Heart rate monitor … This thing is called the HeartTrak watch. Heart rate is measured as follows: There is a free-standing sensor on the back of the device. He touches your hand.

Then you pinch the middle washer of the watch with your other hand, thereby completing the electrical circuit of the heart rate monitor. Hold the button for half a minute, then release it and see some indicators: the pulse is such and such, the percentage of heart load (I also did not understand what it is for and what) like this.

The main drawback of this function lies in the following: the readings are not taken in the "autopilot" mode, they can only be measured manually. With the same success, I can measure my pulse in the good old-fashioned way, with my fingers on my wrist or by the vein behind my ear.

3. Interface language. Messages and notifications when the bracelet is connected to your mobile device are regularly poured into your hand, but, in the language of kindergarteners, these are kalyak-malyaks, which are not possible to understand. This means that this function is almost useless, unless the device will notify you of a call or message. The Russian language is not yet available (I hope the manufacturers plan to fix this).

4. Waterproof … She is notable: it can withstand 30 meters, as it is said. However, what is it for? Unless you can, without thinking about the safety of your watch, rush in the rain, doing a desperate workout session. After all, there is no separate function for those who like to surf the pool.

Conclusion

So, here are the conclusions I made about the LifeTrak Brite R450 fitness tracker based on my impressions.

The gadget is worth the investment: beautiful, sturdy, it helps you start and end your day on time. Who is it for? In my opinion, for those who thought that wearing an ordinary watch was boring, and decided to evaluate the capabilities of smart ones. You can calmly force the river by swimming and not remove the device from your hand. On the shore, you can immediately measure your pulse and make sure: you are in order, your heart rhythmically beats. In general, if he spoke with me in Russian, then for his money he could well serve faithfully.
