At an event in New York, Microsoft announced the operating system Windows 10 S. The company is positioning the novelty as a lightweight version of the OS, optimized to run on low-cost devices.

Windows 10 S will run full desktop versions of programs, including the full Office suite. The only condition is that the application must be in the Windows Store.

That is, if Google adds the Chrome browser to the store, it will be available for computers on the new operating system. Until that happens, Microsoft has the opportunity to popularize its Edge browser.

If a user tries to download an app from a store other than the store, he will be offered alternatives from the Windows Store. If you only need certain software, you can upgrade to Windows 10 and install whatever you want.

Dell, HP, Samsung, Toshiba, Acer, Asus and Fujitsu are already working on Windows 10 S devices, according to company representatives.

Entry-level laptops that support the new software will start at $ 189.

First of all, these computers are designed for the education sector: hence the affordable price, and the free subscription to Minecraft: Education Edition and Office 365 for students and teachers. In addition, schools are encouraged to install Windows 10 S on their old computers for free.
