Some time ago, the mobile Google Chrome introduced the most convenient contextual search for selected words. However, in the last update of the browser, it disappeared for some reason. Here's how to put it back in place.

In the mobile browser Chrome, starting from the 38th version, it was possible to make a long tap on any word so that a pop-up panel of the Google search engine appeared at the bottom. Thus, one could easily find out the meaning of an incomprehensible word, its correct spelling or other additional information without leaving the main page. However, in the most recent version of Chrome, this feature is no longer available. For some reason, the developers decided to deactivate it, although it is still present in the browser.

In order to use contextual search in Google Chrome again, you need to do the following.

  1. Enter the following into the address bar of your browser: chrome: // flags.
  2. This will open a page with experimental Chrome settings. Find the option "Enable Contextual Search" on it.
  3. Flip the toggle to the On position and restart your browser.

Now you can again use the feature to search the highlighted words without leaving the page you are currently viewing. It is not entirely clear why the developers decided to hide this convenient feature from us, which was liked by a large number of users.
