Not only "The Matrix": 20 remakes that await us in the future

Whether you like it or not, new versions of The Matrix, Charlie's Angels, Highlander, The Lion King and other classics are coming soon.

Men in Black (1997)

Another sci-fi trilogy is in development. However, this time without Will Smith. And no matter how strange it may sound, in it the universe of "Men in Black" can be combined with "Macho and nerd". And there will likely be more female lead roles.

The Matrix (1999)

Recently it became known that there will be a remake of The Matrix. According to Warner Bros., this will be a completely different film with a new story that everyone should like. May star Michael B. Jordan.

Scarface (1983)

Director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Great Equalizer) is in talks with Universal Studios to shoot a thriller about an immigrant who has risen from the bottom to the very top of the criminal underworld. Diego Luna (Rogue One. A Star Wars Story) will play Tony Montana. This time the action will unfold in Los Angeles, and the main character will not be Cuban, but Mexican.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)

A new version of the horror film based on the novel of the same name by Lois Duncan will also see the light of day. Director Mike Flanagan promises not to deviate from the original script, so the remake will most likely turn out to be an old film in a new wrapper.

Escape from New York (1981)

Classic fiction by John Carpenter, starring Kurt Russell, will also reboot. The motion picture is likely to look completely different. One of the most radical changes is that this time New York will not be one large maximum security prison.

Big Trouble in Little China (1986)

Another Carpenter film - and again with Kurt Russell approving the remake. The screenplay is written by Ashley Miller and Zach Stentz, who worked on X-Men: First Class. Dwayne Johnson has been cast for the lead role.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Another attempt to create a quality remake of the horror film about Freddy Krueger was made by New Line Cinema. The 2010 version was not warmly received by critics, so there is no need to wait for a sequel. Instead, the picture should acquire a completely new script, which, as the authors promise, should be "worthy of the original."

Charlie's Angels (1976)

The director and producer of the new action movie about three beautiful ladies fighting evil is Elizabeth Banks. For example, she was the producer of the well-received musical melodrama about girls "Pitch Perfect". So Charlie's Angels is a great choice for Banks.

Commando (1985)

Fox bought the rights to reboot the classic action movie five years ago, but hasn't decided on either the director or the cast. Back in 2010, screenwriter David Eyre revealed that the new version will have less muscle, but more tactics and weapons.

Inveterate crooks (1988)

The remake, renamed Nasty Women, stars Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson. The heroine of each of them will try to appropriate the fortune of some giant from the world of technology. The script is written by Jacqueline Schaeffer, the author of the plot of another movie with Hathaway, the sci-fi comedy Shower.

Flatulers (1990)

The new version of the cult classic of the 90s will be directed by Nils Arden Oplev, the author of the Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The film, like the original, follows a bunch of medical students trying to explore the afterlife. One of the participants in the experiment will be played by Ellen Page - the star of "Juno".

Highlander (1986)

There can be only one Highlander, but the new film, apparently, will see the light of day. The immortal antagonist of the Kurgan will be played by David Batista (in the 1986 film - Clancy Brown). Chad Stahelski, author of "John Wick", will sit in the director's chair.

The Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)

This time, a cartoon awaits the audience. Its premiere was supposed to take place this year, but then it was postponed to November 2018. The character trying to steal everyone's favorite holiday is voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch.

Evidence (1985)

For five years, the rights to the remake of the comedy with elements of a detective thriller belonged to Universal Studios. Now the film about people looking for a killer in a big house is being dealt with by Fox.

Jacob's Ladder (1990)

Independent American studio LD Entertainment assures that the restart of Jacob's Ladder is a tribute to the original psychological thriller. The action of the picture will unfold in our days, and the heroes will solve modern problems. David M. Rosenthal (Janie Jones) is directing.

The Lion King (1994)

The Jungle Book by Jon Favreau was so successful that the director decided to revive another representative of the world's animation classics. The new "The Lion King" will also be a film with CG elements.

Mortal Kombat (1995)

Working on the project is James Wang, director of The Conjuring and Fast and Furious 7. The script for the action movie is already being written, but the details have not yet been disclosed.

Aladdin (1992)

Aladdin, like the new Lion King, actively uses modern computer animation technologies. Seeing Guy Ritchie as a director is rather unusual, but the author of The Big Jackpot has long proved that he can shoot not only criminal action films.

Splash (1984)

This time the mermaid will be played by Channing Tatum: this idea was proposed by Gillian Bell, who starred with the American actor in the comedy Macho and the Nerdy. Bell, in turn, will play the role of a girl meeting a marine life. Ron Howard (Inferno, A Beautiful Mind) is in charge of everything that happens on the set.

Drop (1958)

The second remake of the horror film "The Drop" is being directed by "Prison in Air" director Simon West. He promises to make the most of computer graphics to make the film about the strange substance truly worthy. It is possible that the picture will be released this year.
