Businessman Dan Walschmidt set out to say goodbye to life, and this event completely changed his views on success.
1. Do not seek public attention
There are people who are ready to engage in any heresy just for the sake of being shown on TV, for example. Yes, you can definitely name a couple of dozen names. And there are those who do what they love, even if it does not bring money and attention. For example, Vincent van Gogh sold only one painting in his entire life - to his friend's sister for about $ 50. In total, he painted over 800 masterpieces, seven of which total $ 1 billion.
Realizing ourselves in what we love, knowing that, perhaps, success will come only after death - this makes us really strong. (Although we still hope that success will come to you in this life. - Ed.)
2. Give up glossy views
Gloss deceives us every day: beautiful publics about success, biographies of outrageous businessmen, fashion magazines. We are told that it is possible to live easily, it is easy to achieve success. No, it won't work that way.
In the real world, mediocre efforts lead to mediocre results.
An easy life is like an empty one. In fact, in order to represent something, you have to give up excuses and do more difficult and complex things than everyone else. You have to get up earlier, do more, read faster, stay mindful, be honest with yourself, and do many other difficult things. To be strong, you have to conquer yourself every day.
3. Make Cultivation a Regular Action
There is an ingenious phrase: "Consistency is a sign of mastery." Only regular action counts. To understand how important regularity is, you need to realize the results of your individual actions. Staying positive 20 times a day for 15 years is like having 109,500 opportunities to create a happier future. Telling the truth one more time every day - get 365 additional reasons to trust yourself. Reading one book a week for 22 years - learning 1,144 new ideas from the smartest people around the world.
4. Make extreme behavior a habit
In order to reach a new level, you do not need to dream for hours about how cool everything will be. Extreme behavior is needed. This behavior manifests itself in different ways.
Extreme effort. Extreme difference. Extreme thirst for learning. Extreme discipline. Extreme leadership. Extreme plans. Extreme kindness. Extreme surprise. Extreme beliefs. Extreme patience. Extreme positioning. Or maybe all together.
5. Forget about balance
Equilibrium excludes extremes, but only extremes lead to real breakthroughs. Thomas Edison was unstable when he analyzed over 10,000 filament material combinations over a period of 18 months to make a light bulb work. And his dedication led to tremendous success.
Balance limits your ability to shine. Don't even try to achieve it. Live to the limit.
6. Charge with enthusiasm
Maybe going for a run in cold weather or slush is not your ultimate dream, but this is exactly what will energize you!
Our self-esteem is not increased by the number of political news we read, but by our ability to manage ourselves. One of the best ways to train this skill is, of course, through sports! Fight someone in the ring, go jogging if wrestling seems like an overly violent sport to you. Physical activity significantly improves the psychological mood.
7. Cultivate dissimilarity
We were taught from childhood not to stand out. We were taught to be humble and to behave well. When you went to school, you were told that you need to get along with everyone, even if you see how dishonest people use others to their advantage. As long as it doesn't concern yourself, it doesn't seem like a bad thing, but opportunism breeds high-quality mediocrity.
It is necessary to push the boundaries of dissimilarity. And that means not just pushing it a little bit. It means realizing that boundaries exist only in your head. Maybe it's time to set new boundaries. Or get rid of them altogether. You decide. Expanding boundaries is the final decisive factor. Change yourself and you change the world. Become different today.
8. Don't pretend you know a lot
Let's be honest, you, too, sometimes because of the fear of looking stupid, do not admit that you do not know something. We are often less successful than we could be because we pretend we know more than we really do.
Omniscience is the most harmful of all self-restraints.
Instead of looking for answers to questions, we spend time pretending to know them. Why imitate when you can develop the habit of knowing? Why pretend instead of empowering? At some point, you will have to drop it, this fear of not knowing, and just start living the way you want.
9. Become a disciplined ninja
No one hopes to play Mozart's Symphony No. 41 on the piano by taking notes for the first time. We understand that it takes thousands of hours of disciplined practice to perform at a concert level.
So why do we get upset if we fail to make our wildest dreams come true in one six-week jerk? Frustrated if, after just a few tries, we don't get results? Outstanding accomplishments are rarely realized on the first try. In fact, this rarely happens even after the first hundred attempts.
10. Turn your life into a laboratory
Explore. Find yourself a mentor and ask what you can improve in yourself. Listen to opposing points of view. Add to the list of books you want to read and read them. Invite three friends for coffee and as you talk, learn from their talents. Take a guided tour of the museum and take some photos. Introduce new words into your vocabulary.
Stop tweeting - start reading. Enjoy music, sports, or other hobbies. Expand your limits with exercise and activity.
