Push-ups help build triceps and biceps, chest, shoulders, back, and even raise self-esteem. But their effects on health can be made even more powerful by exercising a certain number of times a day. The required number was established by scientists from Harvard.

In February 2019, the Journal of the American Medical Association published the results of a study by the Association Between Push-up Exercise Capacity and Future Cardiovascular Events Among Active Adult Men, which clearly demonstrated that there is an exact number of push-ups that actually magically strengthen the heart muscle and even prolongs life.

For 10 years, experts have monitored the health of more than a thousand men - employees of the Indiana fire departments. This target audience was chosen for a reason: these people, unlike the majority, regularly pass physical standards. This means that you can find out exactly how many times they do push-ups. Scientists correlated this number with the records in the medical records of firefighters. And they discovered something amazing.

Men who performed 40 or more push-ups in a row had a 96% lower risk of heart disease than those who were capable of 10 or fewer reps.

The ability to push up from the floor 20-30 times is also not bad. The risk of heart problems in this case is reduced by 75% compared to a control group performing less than 10 such exercises in a row.

An important note: only the number of push-ups that a person was able to perform in 60 seconds was taken into account. So the "lazy" twenty, stretched out for half an hour, does not count. Just a minute, only hardcore!

However, as with all such studies, scientists are wary. They admit that they found only a statistical relationship, not cause and effect. The number of push-ups you can do is only an indication of what is happening to your cardiovascular system. However, this is also the simplest method for assessing the health status of men.

If you are not doing very well with this exercise, then you should think about heart health. Eat right, exercise more, monitor your blood sugar, and follow other guidelines that will strengthen your fire engine.

And of course, try to learn how to do push-ups. It's not as difficult as it sounds, and the benefits of this exercise are hard to overestimate.
