Mom's advice on skin and hair care, which she brought from Soviet realities, always puzzled and horrified me. But in vain. Here are simple, inexpensive and proven remedies that will pleasantly surprise you.
More often than not, my mother offered to smear something smelly, dirty, or (worst) "leave it as it is." I will not say that, having matured, I began to treat rubbing with a cucumber stub with more sympathy, but I definitely should not have neglected castor oil to care for eyelashes. If one day you want to try "folk" remedies on yourself, here is a selection that will surely not disappoint.
1. Blue clay face mask
How it works
Cleans pores from dirt and grease, reduces inflammation, helps to reduce acne, improves skin tone, can be applied anywhere on the body.
How to apply
There are literally hundreds of recipes for masks with blue clay, you can add olive oil to moisturize the skin, and lemon juice to whiten freckles, but as an allergic person, I would recommend starting with a classic mono-component mask.
First you need to wash with warm water, it would be very good to use a scrub before the mask. Dissolve 3 tablespoons of clay powder with warm water in a non-metallic bowl to the consistency of sour cream. Apply to wet face along the massage lines, avoiding the eye area. Try to relax the muscles of your face as much as possible and suppress laughter at the sight of yourself in the mirror: the clay hardens quite quickly, and the slightest muscle tension will cause the mask to crack and tighten the skin.
When dry, the mask brightens, acquires a pleasant blue color, and spotted spots of fat released from the opened pores are perfectly visible on it. After 10-15 minutes, wash off the mask with warm water, rinse your clean face with cool water. You can do the mask 2-3 times a week.
Important conditions
Take care of proper storage of dry clay residues. They should be tightly wrapped in a bag without moisture. It is better to wash the dishes in which you prepared the mask while the clay is still wet.
approximate cost
40 rubles for 100 grams. You can buy it in the cosmetic departments of stores, in pharmacies.
2. Loofah scrubber
Luffa is a herbaceous vine of the pumpkin family. Washcloths are made from ripe fruits that have a fibrous, tough structure.
How it works
Peeling and light skin massage. Eliminates ingrown hairs.
How to apply
The stores sell loofah loofahs of various shapes and degrees of hardness: mittens, long loofahs with two loops, with foam inside, there are even small pieces of loofah melted into bars of soap. In my opinion, exfoliating mittens are the most convenient, and they are usually softer because they are additionally processed to give the desired shape. Sponges with foam rubber are needed if you want to use soap for peeling, but, in my opinion, this is superfluous: a pure loofah will exfoliate dead cells much better.
Before use, wet the mitten with warm water - you can rub. Just don't overdo it! Even without pressure, it is noticeable how, after two or three rubbing movements, the skin turns red.
Important conditions
Luffa is a porous natural material. Therefore, in order to prevent bacteria from multiplying in the washcloth, rinse it well in hot water after each use and dry it straight away (it is better to hang it outside the bathroom). It will not be superfluous to pour boiling water over the washcloth a couple of times a week. If the luffa has changed its color or smell, it should not be used.
approximate cost
From 80 to 200 rubles, depending on the size.
3. Castor oil
Vegetable oil obtained from castor bean plant.
How it works
Strengthens eyelashes, stimulates their growth. Can be used on eyebrows and hair. As a bonus, it can smooth out fine wrinkles around the eyes.
How to apply
In addition to the castor oil, we need a brush to apply it. You can wash the old mascara brush or use cotton swabs. The oil is applied to clean lashes in the evening or during the day if you do not use eye makeup. Do not overdo it with the amount of oil: it should moisturize the lashes, but not collect droplets on them. Otherwise, blot your eyelashes with a tissue.
Whether you can smear your eyelashes at night, you will have to find out empirically: for someone, oil during sleep causes swelling of the eyelids, for someone it does not. But in any case, the sooner you apply the product before going to bed, the better.
Important conditions
Keep track of the term and storage conditions. Castor oil is stored tightly packed in a dark container at a temperature not exceeding 18 degrees for two years. If you apply it only to eyelashes, after two years you will still have half a bubble. Use it to care for your leather shoes and buy a new bottle for your eyelashes.
approximate cost
60-100 rubles for 30 ml. You can buy it at any pharmacy.
4. Avoiding soap
How it works
Allows you to restore the natural hydrolipidic balance of dry and sensitive skin.
How to apply
If you suffer from itching, flaking, dryness, acne on the body with dry skin, just try to reduce the use of soap and be patient for at least a week. It is quite possible that this alone will be enough to solve half of your problems. Lathering yourself every day is completely unnecessary, especially if you work in an office and do not play sports.
Important conditions
Please do not take this advice too literally. In no case should you give up soap altogether. It is necessary for cleaning highly contaminated areas of the body, removing deodorant residues, for hygiene of the genitals and hand treatment after you cook something from raw meat or eggs, come from the street or visit the toilet. And I certainly am not calling for a reduction in the number of water procedures.
approximate cost
0 rubles. If you consider that the money saved on the purchase of soap is the money earned, you will even remain in the black.
5. Suspension "Tsindol"
A medicinal product with zinc oxide, which has an anti-inflammatory, absorbent, astringent, antiseptic effect on the skin.
How it works
Eliminates acne. The indications for use also include dermatitis of various etiologies, sun and temperature burns, cuts, scratches and herpetic eruptions. "Tsindol" even relieves itching with chickenpox!
How to apply
The suspension must be shaken thoroughly before use until smooth. "Tsindol" is applied with a cotton swab directly to inflammation. It is possible to apply to a large area with a cotton pad if you are concerned about a profuse rash.
It is advisable to use it at night, as the instruction assumes application for several hours. Most likely, overnight the dried white crust will crumble on its own, if not, in the morning it can be washed off with warm water, although not without difficulty.
Important conditions
Put on clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, and make the same bedding. Before the first use, it is advisable to do a skin sensitivity test at the bend of the elbow. Despite the fact that the drug is used even in newborns, zinc oxide can cause an allergic reaction. Strongly dries the skin, preferably spot application.
approximate cost
100-150 rubles for 125 ml.
If you are used to using ready-made cosmetic preparations based on the listed products (for example, a steaming mask with blue clay and zinc - a fairly common combination for acne), there will be no wow effect. In essence, this is the same active ingredient, but more concentrated and for less money. Also, I do not advise counting on an instant effect: apart from the use of loofah for peeling, all other manipulations will require you to use it regularly, especially castor oil. In general, the listed funds have proven themselves well and are not addictive.
