Add new features to your favorite browser.
Keep in mind that you should only install extensions that you are confident in. Even in the Chrome Web Store, you can stumble upon a malicious addon.
How to install an extension in Google Chrome
How to install an extension from the Chrome Web Store
The main source of extensions for your browser is the official Chrome Web Store. Here they are available for installation for free. To install the extension, do the following.
Open up. To do this, enter the URL in the address bar of your browser
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/
and press Enter.
Find the extension you want. You can use the Store Search line in the upper left corner of the screen, or select something from the categories on the home page. Clicking on the required extension, you will see its page. There will be a large blue "Install" button on the right. Click it.
Click "Install extension" in the pop-up window and wait a bit. When the installation is complete, Chrome will show a notification in the upper left corner of the window. An extension page with instructions can optionally open.
The extension is now ready to go.
You can find it in a special menu that opens when you click on the button with the puzzle icon on the toolbar. If you use this extension a lot and want to always have quick access to it, click on the pin icon next to it and it will be pinned to the toolbar.
And if you decide to remove the extension back to the menu, right-click its icon and select "Unpin from Quick Launch".
How to install a ZIP extension
Sometimes the extension you need is not in the Chrome Web Store, but the developer allows you to download it from their website. In this case, you will have to add it to the browser manually. In the past, it was enough to download an extension in CRX format and drag it to the Chrome window. Now Google has removed this feature for security reasons. However, you can still install third-party extensions.
Download the extension you want. Typically, it is packed into a ZIP archive. Unpack it into a new empty folder in any place convenient for you.
In Chrome, click Menu → More Tools → Extensions.
Click the Developer Mode radio button.
Click Download Packaged Extension and select your folder. Done, the extension is installed.
How to install a third party extension in CRX format
Some extensions are in the old fashioned way not in the ZIP archive, but in the CRX format. Their browser allows you to install only if they were downloaded from the Chrome Web Store. Otherwise, he will simply open the store page. Here's how to get around this limitation.
Download extension CRX format. Open the site and drag the downloaded file to the box on the right.
Click the Get Source button. The browser will download the ZIP archive.
Unpack the resulting archive into a new folder and install the extension as shown in the previous paragraph.
How to set up an extension in Google Chrome
Click Menu → More Tools → Extensions and find the option you want.
Click the "Details" button next to it - the options window will open. Here you can enable or disable the extension without deleting it. In the "Access to sites" section, you can specify whether to run the extension on all sites, or on some (their addresses will need to be entered manually), or activate it only when you click on the addon icon. And in "Allow use in incognito mode" - enable the extension for private mode.
Keep in mind that many extensions collect visitor statistics, so use this feature with caution.
Finally, the "Extension Options" section opens the settings menu for the add-on itself.
Each extension has its own. The options available for editing here depend on the addon developer.
You can also open the extension's options by right-clicking on its icon in the toolbar and choosing Options.
By the way, not all extensions have settings open for editing, so sometimes this button is not available.
How to remove an extension from Google Chrome
Click Menu → More Tools → Extensions, find the extension you want to get rid of and click Remove. You can do this even faster by right-clicking on the add-on icon in the toolbar and choosing "Remove from Chrome" from the context menu. Or click on the puzzle icon, find the extension you want there, click on the button with three dots next to it and click Remove from Chrome.
Confirm your command when the browser asks you again by clicking the Delete button again. Done, extension removed.
