Instead of the closed project CyanogenMod, the developers have introduced a new Lineage OS. Six devices received support for the firmware at once.
At the end of December, Cyanogen was forced to suspend the implementation of the CyanogenMod project, without having had time to take the rights to Android from Google. As it turned out, massive layoffs and personnel changes did not break the developers. Today the company unveiled the first official build of Lineage OS.
A whole website was dedicated to the new firmware, and the first batch of devices supporting the OS included:
- Google Nexus 6P;
- Google Nexus 5X;
- Xiaomi Redmi 1S;
- Motorola Moto G4;
- Motorola G4 Plus;
- Nextbit Robin.
Firmware for these gadgets is available on the official website of Lineage OS in the "Downloads" section. To obtain root rights, you will need to install an additional package. Users of devices running CyanogenMod 13 and above can install Lineage OS on top of the firmware without completely resetting the device.
The developers claim that in a few weeks Lineage OS will be ported to more than 80 smartphone models.
