After the finale of one of the most famous TV series of the decade, HBO planned to tackle several prequels. Initially, a project with the working title "Long Night" was launched into development. Jane Goldman ("Stardust") was in charge of the script, and Naomi Watts was cast in the lead role. The plot was supposed to unfold thousands of years before the events of "Game of Thrones".

However, in the fall of 2019, this series was discontinued after filming the pilot. Instead, they launched another project called "House of the Dragon". And while this is the only prequel to the famous saga, on which active work is underway.

What will the series "House of the Dragon" tell about?

House of the Dragon will be based on Fire and Blood by George R. R. Martin, which is a pseudo-historical chronicle. The plot of the series unfolds 300 years before the events of "Game of Thrones" and tells about the formation of the House of Targaryen - the conquests of Aegon and the large-scale civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.

The book also reveals the history of the formation of other great houses, describes the construction of King's Harbor and other important events. It is not known how much of what is described in the original will be included in the film adaptation. But it is precisely the presence of a literary source that is called the main reason for ordering this series.

What characters will appear in the "House of the Dragon"

Since the action will unfold 300 years before the events of "Game of Thrones", you should not wait for the appearance of any familiar characters. Even Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen, confirmed that she was not aware of the channel's plans.

It is not known whether the coronavirus pandemic will affect the release date: the series is still at the preproduction stage. Perhaps its release will not move. But in any case, fans will have to wait for a long time.

Who will work on "House of the Dragon"

After a change of plans, the management invited a new screenwriter. The prequel will be produced by Ryan Kondal, best known for the films Hercules and Rampage with Dwayne Johnson. His track record is smaller than that of Goldman, but still more solid than that of David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, who worked on Game of Thrones.

But the main joy for the fans is that the pilot and possibly a few more episodes will be directed by Miguel Sapochnik. He was responsible for some of the best episodes of the original - "Battle of the Bastards" and "Harsh House".
