"Vikings" was extended for a sixth season before the release of the fifth. At the same time, the fifth season, consisting of 20 episodes, was divided into two halves. The first part started at the end of 2017, the second - a year later.

Development of the sixth season began back in 2017. But the series will return to the screens only on December 4, 2019. The authors promise a two-hour premiere.

Subsequently, the Vikings, under the leadership of Ragnar, set out to capture Wessex, the richest city of the Franks, Paris, as well as other cities and peoples.

In addition, a lot of time is devoted to internecine wars and intrigues among the heroes themselves and clashes in their Kattegat settlement. So, one of the main enemies of Ragnar is his blood brother Rollo (Clive Standen). The first wife of the protagonist Lagertha (Catherine Winnick) plays an important role in the plot.

However, in the fourth season, Ragnar died, and from that moment his sons became the main characters: Ubba (Jordan Patrick Smith), Ivar Boneless (Alex Heg Andersen), Khvitserk (Marco Ilse) and Björn Iron-sided (Alexander Ludwig).

They fought with each other, periodically going on different wanderings. Bjorn went to Sicily, and Ivar tried to capture York. At the same time, Ragnar's longtime friend Floki discovered Iceland, mistaking it for the mythical abode of the gods Asgard.

As a result, Ivar and Khvitserk united with King Harald the Fair-haired and captured Kattegat. They were opposed by Bjorn, Ubba and Lagertha. They managed to recapture the city, but Ivar fled to the East.

What will happen in the new season

So far, there is not much information about the further development of events. But it is already known that the main characters will go east along the Great Silk Road. They will have to face Kievan Rus, as well as Chinese civilization.

At the same time, Prince Oleg will play an important role in the new season. For this role, the authors specially invited the Russian actor Danila Kozlovsky.

It is ironic that in 2016 Kozlovsky had already starred in the Russian film Viking, albeit in the role of Prince Vladimir Svyatoslavich.

Who else will appear in the sixth season

The fate of the main characters is still unknown. But after the information appeared that the performer of the role of Lagertha Catherine Winnick would direct one of the episodes of the sixth season, rumors arose about the death of her heroine.

In addition, on her Instagram, she posted just such a photo, and someone considered it an allusion to the sad fate of the warrior. However, there is no official confirmation of this.

In the sixth season, most of the main characters of the series will appear. The actors shared on social media behind-the-scenes videos about the work on the new season. Fans have collected some of them in one video.

But from the sixth season, you can expect any twists and turns and even the death of the main characters. After all, it is already known that it will be final.

True, the creator of the project, Michael Hirst, said that he would like to work further on the spin-off. But what he will be dedicated to is unknown.
