Six main reasons, which will not be difficult to eliminate.
1. Non-original charger
One of the most common reasons for a decrease in the charging speed of a smartphone is a banal change of the charging adapter. Perhaps you are simply using someone else's charger with insufficient output current.
Usually, inexpensive smartphones without accelerated charging support, original adapters have amperage from 1 to 2 A. You can find out for sure by looking at the small print on the charger itself or in the characteristics of the smartphone.
It is recommended to replace the supplied adapter with an accessory with the same output current or higher. Even if you usually use a 1 A charger, you can easily switch to an adapter with a current of 2 A. But if, on the contrary, you switched from 2 A to 1 A, the smartphone will charge much slower.
2. Damaged USB cable
If changing the adapter does not solve the problem, it is possible that the reason for the slowdown in recharging speed lies in the USB cable itself. Especially if it has some kind of mechanical damage: it could have been chewed by your pet or the plug itself was broken when bent.
The likelihood that this was the cause of the slow charging is rather small. Usually mechanical damage completely destroys the cable, but it's still worth checking. Just replace the wire with any other.
3. Connector problems
It is possible that the problem with the low recharging speed lies in the smartphone's connector, which over time can be corroded or simply dirty. Make sure it is free of dust and visible damage.
You can remove small dust particles from the port with a toothpick or small brush. It is worth using a needle or other metal objects with great care, as there is a risk of damaging the jumper with contacts.
4. High load on the device
The high background activity of the smartphone can also affect the charging speed. It is when you connect to the power supply that the latest versions of applications are usually automatically downloaded and installed, and antiviruses, for example, begin to fur the device's memory.
All these processes require energy consumption, which means that it will take more time to fully charge the battery than usual. You can find out which programs are actively consuming the charge in the smartphone settings in the "Battery" or "Battery" section. Just close the unnecessary ones, thereby reducing the load on the device's resources.
5. Battery wear
Lithium ion batteries, most commonly used in smartphones, have their own lifespan. Usually it is limited to a certain number of recharges, after which the effective capacity of the battery is reduced. Along with this, the speed of the recharging itself can also slow down.
This problem is especially relevant for devices that have been actively used for 3-4 years. Although in the case of flagships that support accelerated charging, battery problems may begin as early as the second year.
The only solution here is to replace the battery. In the case of a non-removable back cover, it will be difficult to do it yourself. It is better to contact an authorized service center.
6. Planned decrease in charging speed
Almost all accelerated charging technologies with the help of special controllers themselves vary the power, reducing it when a certain percentage of charge is reached. That is why some smartphones charge from 0 to 50% in half an hour, and for the second 50% they need another whole hour. This is done to slow down the degradation process of the battery and increase its life.
For the same purpose, some smart charging technologies at night deliberately reduce the recharge rate to a minimum, ensuring 100% replenishment only in the morning. The availability of such options can be checked in the device settings in the "Battery" section.
