Who is postponing the weekend and why

In Russia, the Labor Code of the Russian Federation is established, article 112 "Non-working holidays" 14 non-working holidays:

  • January 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 - New Year's holidays;
  • January 7 - Christmas;
  • February 23 - Defender of the Fatherland Day;
  • March 8 - International Women's Day;
  • May 1 - Spring and Labor Day;
  • May 9 - Victory Day;
  • June 12 - Day of Russia;
  • November 4 - National Unity Day.

By law, if a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the day off from that day is transferred to the next working day. An exception is made for the New Year and Christmas holidays. The days off from these days are distributed by the government of the Russian Federation at its discretion.

Rest days often fill the uncomfortable voids between holidays and weekends. For example, if November 4 is Thursday, it would be logical to make Friday November 5 a day off so that Russians can schedule an extra four-day vacation.

What days will be days off and holidays in 2022

As follows from the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation, the New Year holidays this year will remain long and will begin on December 31. It became known that this day would be a day off back in 2020. The rest was postponed from January 3, which fell on Sunday.

In 2022, there are few transfers. Holidays January 1 and 2 fall on Saturday and Sunday. Therefore, they were moved to Tuesdays 3 and 10 May, which will be days off. Saturday, March 5, will be made a working day. The day off will move to Monday, March 7th, so that there will be three continuous days of rest.

  • from 4th to 6th November.

The schedule of New Year's holidays in 2023 will become known at the beginning of next summer, when the Ministry of Labor will decide on the postponement of the weekend.

How to rest during a six-day work week

If you work six days a week, there will be fewer holidays:

  • from December 31 to January 9.
  • February 23.
  • 6 and 8 March.
  • May 1 and 2, as well as from May 8 to 10.
  • June 12 and 13.
  • November 4th and 6th.

December 31, with a six-day period, will be a working day - it falls on Saturday.

How to extend your vacation with holidays

The Labor Code requires you to have a rest once a year 14 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, article 125. Division of annual paid leave into parts. Withdrawal from vacation days in a row. The rest of the days can be taken as you like, of course, having warned the employer about this.

If you take a vacation on February 24 and 25, you will be able to rest for 5 days in a row, from March 9 to 11 - 8 days, from May 4 to 6 - 11 days. In addition, you can "stick" it after a three-day weekend in June or before - in November and gain an extra day off. But keep in mind: if you take a vacation in a month with a lot of holidays, you may end up losing out on payment. It has to do with how vacation pay.
