How to make an Easter egg: interesting ideas plus natural dyes

I can't say that I belong to religious people and follow all the rules and ceremonies, but there is something special for me in Christmas and Easter for me, light and a little childish. That is why, before every Easter, my son and his friends and I arrange something like a small master class on making Easter eggs.

The bright spring holiday of Easter this year falls on April 20th, so you have enough time to get ready and choose an interesting way to make Easter eggs, and we will help you!

Onion peel

Let's start with the simplest thing - coloring in onion skins. But this will not be just a single-color painting, for a change we will take small leaves and make stencils! This method was also used by my grandmother, so it's really time-tested.

The more onion skins, the darker the color (from beige to dark brown). The husks of red onions give a purple hue. The broth with the husk should be boiled for at least half an hour, then infused, and only then you can cook eggs in it.

How to make patterns

  • Wrap the egg with thread - you get strips.
  • Attach onion peel to the egg and tie it in a nylon sock - you get interesting stains.
  • Roll a wet egg in cereal (rice or buckwheat), tie it in a nylon sock and boil in dye - you get speckled eggs.
  • Attach dill and parsley leaves (or small leaves of house plants) to the egg, tie it tightly with a nylon sock and boil in water with dye - you get eggs with leaf prints.

Easter decoupage

Another simple and natural way to make a beautiful Easter egg is Easter decoupage! It is done according to the same principle as the standard one, only instead of glue and varnish - egg white.

  • Choose a napkin with Easter motifs, cut them out and leave the thinnest layer with the pattern.
  • Boil the eggs, cool and rub them dry.
  • Beat the protein in a separate plate.
  • Gently apply a patterned napkin to the egg and coat it on top.
  • Leave the egg to dry.

The same can be done without cutting out individual motifs. To do this, you need to divide the napkin into layers, put a layer with a pattern on top of the egg and begin to gently coat the top with egg white with a wide soft brush. The remaining napkin needs to be cut off.

To add shine, you can coat the egg with vegetable oil, but after it dries.

Children's markers or water-based paints, wax crayons

All children's drawing supplies (felt-tip pens and water-based paints, wax pencils) are made with the expectation that little artists will periodically taste them (sometimes even savoring them), so art products for young gourmets are great for decorating Easter eggs.

You simply hand your child a hard-boiled egg and paints and let your child's imagination run wild.

Natural dyes

Onion peel … The color varies from light brown to almost burgundy (it all depends on the amount of husk). The husks of red onions paint the eggs almost purple.

Poplar twigs. The color is yellow-lemon.

Turmeric. Color - from light to dark yellow (it all depends on the quality of the spice).

Cranberries or beets. Pink colour. Soak boiled eggs in water with cranberry or beet juice overnight.

Coffee. Color - dark brown. To do this, boil an egg in 250 ml of coffee.
