It just so happened historically - the Russian people (and together with it the Ukrainian and Belarusian, and a few more neighboring ones), for the most part, drink a lot. This became the subject of jokes, anecdotes, the reason for many crazy actions and a reason to boast (“I just consumed a bottle of vodka in one throat in an hour yesterday, are you weak?”). And this is considered normal. It seems that everyone knows that alcohol, like nicotine, is harmful to health, but it is still considered one of the best (if not the best) way to solve all problems, establish communication with unfamiliar people, and just relax. And now I want to talk first of all about alcohol as a habitual way of rest.

After a hard day or week, a person just needs to relax, get rid of thoughts about work, and forget about pressing problems. Together with the passion for drinking described above, this turns into a sad anecdote. Hence the song "Every Friday I'm in the shit" that became popular on the Internet by the former KVN player Semyon Slepakov. But if Semyon, as a person with a good sense of humor, sings about this with irony and sarcasm, then many young and not so people perceived this song as their, practically, anthem. And they do not see anything shameful or bad in this.

After Friday comes the same Saturday, then Sunday to sleep and get drunk, and then that's it - until next Friday we'll talk about who got drunk this weekend and make plans for the next. Plans, as a rule, do not differ in variety.

Frankly speaking, I myself "rested" in this way for a long time. And even now, to be honest, I am periodically brought into a friendly drinking binge. But I found for myself a much more effective way to relax after a hard day at work, and its name is running.

Running is ideal for “rebooting” the brain twitched with daily tasks. Rhythmic movements for a long time lead you into a state of trance, meditation, which ventilates your head, like an open window in windy weather ventilates an apartment. For those half an hour or an hour, while a short run lasts, you manage to forget about all the problems, or come up with solutions to unsolved problems, or delve into yourself - everyone will choose what suits him best, and the run itself puts the brain into such a state that he himself will understand what it is better for him to do at this time.

Besides:

  • This is more useful. Nobody, I hope, will argue with this statement. If we are not talking about professional athletes dying on a treadmill, but about calm and unhurried health jogging, then this does not harm the body. Unlike alcohol.
  • It's cheaper. Each booze, as a rule, costs a pretty penny. A bottle, then a second, and then a snack, and then to run for a third … I'm not talking about pubs and bars, which, in my opinion, try to recoup the whole bottle in one portion. At your expense and at the expense of your health.
  • It commands respect. When I started running, many of my acquaintances did not believe me at first, and when they did, they began to admire, saying that they also wanted to. Most interestingly, some really started:) And two of them are even going to run a 10-kilometer distance with me at the "Kharkov Marathon" in August.

So what do we have in the bottom line? There is a decent, useful and working alternative to the usual in our countries way of unloading after a hard day at work, which does not cause hangovers and addiction. Although no, there is still an addiction - starting to run, it is already difficult to stop.

See you for a run!
