The Word Vault has definitions for thousands of English words, ranging from the mundane like street to the exotic like superabundance or meliorism. All viewed words are saved in a separate list and then available for testing your memory.
I try to watch TV shows in original and with English subtitles. Often in the dialogues of the characters I come across words that I do not know, and I press pause, open Google Translate, translate the word and return to viewing. This list of actions becomes more complicated if I do not know the definition of a word in Russian.
For example, I see the word meliorism in the film. I go to Google Translate, enter a word and get its translation into Russian - "meliorism". It became not much clearer.
If you are fluent in English and want to expand your vocabulary, Word Vault will help you do just that. Word Vault is a dictionary with definitions for English words.
In addition to the textual definition, each word has a picture, audio recording of pronunciation, translation, synonyms and examples. Having found a word and seeing such an abundance of information, it is quite difficult not to understand its meaning.
Word Vault combines a dictionary and word memorization tool in one. All the words you have viewed are saved in a separate list. When you have free time, you can take the test. In it, you need to choose the number of words - the duration of the test depends on this - and remember the words, based on their definitions. Saved words can be annotated, but I didn't see much point in this functionality.
Word Vault costs 279 rubles. Quite a lot for a dictionary, but the developers have packed a lot of functions into the application. If you are often looking for definitions of English words, Word Vault is a handy way to find them.
