You don't have to be a professional photographer or a very photogenic model to take a quality portrait. Of course, there are people who are loved by the camera and who look good from every angle. Just like there are people with magic hands, in whom any person turns out to be perfect in a photograph. Anyone can become a model and anyone can become a photographer. It's just about the perspective.

Joe Sinnott, a professional photographer, gives advice on how to take a portrait correctly.

Lighting. If bright sunlight hits a person directly in the face, too clear and deep shadows will appear on it (sharply outlined nasolabial folds are not a very good option for a photo). You need diffused light. If you do not have a special reflector, you either need to choose the weather with a slight haze of clouds, or the time of day - literally 30 minutes after sunrise or 30-40 minutes before sunset, or just go into the shade.

Focus. In order for the background not to be distracted from the face, you must bring focus to the face and leave the background blurred.

Eye line. The model should look directly into the lens, and you should raise it literally 20-30 degrees out of the line of the eyes.

And, of course, don't forget about the smile! Happy people always look good;)
