How to adjust a balcony door

In the manufacture of doors in a balcony block, a window profile and fittings are used. In fact, the door is a large window with a blank bottom part of the sash. All adjustments are made in the same way as in the windows. Therefore, if you want to adjust the balcony door, read a separate article in which all the nuances are sorted out.

How to adjust your front door

Entrance doors are made from a wider reinforced profile using special, reinforced fittings, as well as metal thresholds. The door settings are different here.

Adjustment is carried out using special screws in the hinges
Adjustment is carried out using special screws in the hinges

Unlike a window sash, the door leaf position is adjusted using special screws in the hinges. By rotating them, you can move the door in three planes:

  • Screw 1 (under the hinge cover), when screwed clockwise, moves the sash away from the door frame by 5 mm, and when it is counterclockwise, pulls the door to the frame by 5 mm.
  • Screw 2 (from the bottom of the hinge), when rotated clockwise, raises the canvas up 4 mm, and when oriented counterclockwise, lowers the door 1 mm down.
  • Screw 3 (at the top of the hinge), when screwed clockwise, brings the sash closer to the door frame by 0.75 mm, thereby increasing the pressure, and when it is counterclockwise, it moves the leaf away from the frame by 0.75 mm, loosening the pressure.

What you need to adjust

Hinges are adjusted using 5mm and 6mm Allen keys. In the fittings of some manufacturers, instead of hexagon screws, Torx fasteners ("asterisk") are used. You may also need flat-head and Phillips screwdrivers.

How to adjust plastic doors if the door leaf clings to the bottom of the box

The most common malfunction that occurs when the sash sags. To restore the door's functionality, it is necessary to raise the door leaf.

Method 1

Take a hexagon of a suitable size (usually 6 mm, less often 5 mm) and insert it into the lower screw of the lower hinge.

Method 2

If the previous method did not help, it means that the door sagged a lot and changed its geometry. In this case, you need to move the top of the sash towards the frame, thereby raising its lower part above the threshold.

Open the door and locate the screw on the inside of the top hinge that secures the decorative strip. It can be for a 3 mm hexagon or a Phillips screwdriver.

After completing the adjustment, refit the decorative strip and fix it with the fixing screw from the inside.

In some hinges, the horizontal adjustment screw is hidden under a small plug on the side of the escutcheon. In fittings of this design, the decorative cover can be left on - just pry off the screw cap with a flat screwdriver and adjust.

How to adjust plastic doors if the sash catches the frame on the side

The skew of the sash with rubbing against the door frame from the side most often occurs with the onset of cold weather or, conversely, after winter. This problem is solved by shifting the canvas towards the loops.

If the hardware has access to the horizontal adjusting screw, simply remove the cap. If not, open the door, unscrew the fixing screw of the outer decorative strip and remove it by sliding it to the side.

Replace the trims and secure them with screws from the inside of the door.

Drafts in the doors occur due to the loose fit of the rubber bands along the perimeter of the canvas to the frame. To fix this, you need to increase the pressure by adjusting the eccentrics.

Use a flat screwdriver to pry the cover from the top of the hinge and remove. Remove the retainer located deeper in the same way. In some accessories, it is combined with the lid, so everything can be removed at once.
