How to make a Kentucky chaise longue chair from bars

One of the most popular chaise lounges. In addition to a comfortable fit, it also has a very stylish appearance and compact folds. At the same time, the assembly process is quite simple and will be within the power of anyone.

What is needed

• Hacksaw for metal;
• jigsaw;
• screwdriver or drill;
• grinder;
• drill with a diameter of 8 mm;
• square;
• pencil;
• wrench;
• roulette;
• 7 wooden blocks with dimensions 3 × 4 × 200 cm;
• 2 galvanized studs M6 2 m long;
• 8 washers М6;
• 8 self-locking nuts М6;
• sandpaper P80;
• 0.5 liters of antiseptic, stain or varnish;
• brush;
• 0, 5 lin. m of oxford fabric;
• foam rubber, synthetic winterizer;
• 1 m of jute rope with a diameter of 10 mm.

How to do

Mark the timber with a pencil and square, and then saw with a jigsaw or a regular hacksaw into parts. It should look like this:

• 1,050 mm - 2 pieces;
• 875 mm - 2 pieces;
• 787 mm - 4 pieces;
• 745 mm - 2 pieces;
• 375 mm - 6 pieces;
• 228 mm - 9 pieces.

In the same way, mark the points for the holes and drill them with an 8 mm drill. Try to execute them strictly perpendicular to the bars and as accurately as possible - the quality of the product will depend on this.

Sand the surfaces of all parts thoroughly with a sander or emery paper by hand. Also, round off the sharp edges of the bars so that they do not dig into the body or cling to clothing.

With a brush, treat all the resulting parts with an antiseptic, stain or varnish to protect against moisture and give an aesthetic appearance. Apply the coating at this stage. After assembly, this will be much more difficult.

While the bars are drying, the headrest can be made.

To do this, take a piece of foam rubber, wrap it with padding polyester and sew a pillowcase. On the sides of the pillow, loops should be made through which a rope will be threaded to attach the headrest to the back. However, you can take a ready-made pillow.

After the bars are completely dry, you can start assembling. To do this, slide the backrest and seat parts onto the studs in the order shown. Join the structure together by installing the last stud.

Now slide the bars closer to each other and tighten them by tightening the nuts. Do not forget to put on the washers first so that the fasteners do not press into the wood.

Saw off excess studs with a hacksaw for metal and remove the burrs with a sandpaper.

It remains only to unfold the chaise longue, fix the pillow - and you can rest.

How to make a deck chair from pallets

A simple version of a sunbed that can be literally collected from garbage in just a couple of hours. It features an original backrest tilt adjustment and built-in wheels, thanks to which such garden furniture is easy to roll around the site.

What is needed

• Jigsaw;

• 2 pallets;
• 2 door hinges;
• 4 m of ropes with a diameter of 15–20 mm;
• 4 wheels;
• screws;
• nails;
• stain or varnish;
• brush.

How to do

The first step is to prepare the bottom of the lounger. To do this, take one of the pallets. Using a hammer and a chisel, dismantle the central support, and then remove all protruding nails with a nailer.

Remove one of the side supports so that the bottom board stays on the blocks.

Saw off one plank from the deck on the side of the removed support. It should now be about 70 cm wide.

Now put the bottom of the support back in place and nail it down. You should get almost the same pallet as it was at the beginning, but narrower.

The second pallet will serve as a backrest. Saw it roughly in half along the long side, and then shorten one of the pieces so that it is the same width as the sunbed.

Trim off any overhangs from planks and planks for a cleaner look.

Connect the base to the back with hinges and secure them with screws or nails.

Mark the center of the top board of the backrest and drill two holes in the corners of such a diameter so that the rope can pass freely there. Make similar holes on the outermost planks of the base. Approximately in the middle.

Pass a rope through all the holes, tying it in a knot under one of the planks of the lounger. Adjust the length of the rope to a comfortable reclining position of the backrest and secure with a knot on the other side.

To make a tilt adjustment mechanism, attach a stand from the board from the pallet flooring in the middle of the backrest. From it, cut a couple of small pieces and attach them to the rack with screws. The distance between the improvised clamps should be such that the channel fits snugly into the gap.

Turn the sun lounger over. Place the wheels in the corners and attach them with screws.

Sand all surfaces of the resulting product with a sander or sandpaper by hand, and then cover with a stain or varnish to protect against moisture.

How to make a chaise lounge on wheels from a board

Simplified design of a classic sunbed with a frame without a complex and bulky frame. The main advantage is that the entire chaise longue is assembled from a regular inch board. Nice features include a folding footboard, as well as wheels and a handle for easy rolling.

What is needed

• Jigsaw;
• screwdriver;
• grinder or grinder;
• 20 m boards with dimensions 25 × 100 mm;
• 2 wheels;
• 6 furniture screws with washers and nuts;
• screws.

How to do

First of all, file all the details:

• 25 × 100 × 2000 mm - 2 pieces;
• 25 × 100 × 900 mm - 2 pieces;
• 25 × 100 × 600 mm - 4 pieces;
• 25 × 100 × 350 mm - 2 pieces;
• 25 × 100 × 600 - 19 pieces.

For a more accurate look, cut off the wedge-like parts of the parts with a length of 2,000, 900 and 350 mm according to the indicated dimensions. Do not discard wedges left over from 900 mm boards. Shorten them by leaving 300mm from the wider part and cutting off the narrower part.

Sand the parts and chamfer the edges with a grinder or grinder. Round off the parts with a length of 350 and 900 mm at the wide part, sawing off the corners.

Drill all holes in the boards. Alternatively, you can do this already during assembly, trying on parts to each other.

Assemble the footrest. To do this, place a pair of 350 mm long blanks on the edge and screw two 600 mm long boards to them from above. Distribute them evenly along the length, and make the gap between the planks by the thickness of the boards.

Attach parts of the frame to the footrest from the inside on furniture screws, and to them in the same way - the sidewalls of the back. Then, on the sidewalls, install stops 300 mm long, cut from the remnants of the wedges.

Fasten at the rear of the wheel frame, 50 mm back from the edge. Install a 600 mm long plank on top to prevent the wheels from moving apart. Attach the same board to the backrest stops and, having chosen a convenient tilt position, cut out recesses in the sides of the frame to fix the stop.

Use screws to attach the deck deck deck to the frame. Distribute the boards evenly across the width and screw in two self-tapping screws from each edge. To maintain the same distance between the planks, you can use a couple of appropriately sized cuttings. On the extreme board from the side of the legs, cut a groove to make it easier to grip with your hand when moving the lounger.

How to make a sun lounger with a fabric seat

A lightweight chair with a simple design. It can be easily folded and carried. Takes up a minimum of space when assembled. Convenient to take with you when going out into the countryside.

How to do

First you need to file all the details for the project. You get the following list:

• 15 × 50 × 960 mm - 4 pieces for gluing in pairs;
• 15 × 50 × 1300 mm - 4 pieces for gluing in pairs;
• 18 × 40 × 536 mm - 2 pieces;
• 18 × 40 × 596 mm - 2 pieces;
• 18 × 40 × 656 mm - 1 piece;
• 18 × 50 × 590 mm - 2 pieces.

When using blocks instead of plywood, you will need the following details:

• 20 × 40 × 960 mm - 2 pieces;
• 20 × 40 × 1300 mm - 2 pieces;
• 20 × 40 × 536 mm - 2 pieces;
• 20 × 40 × 596 mm - 2 pieces;
• 20 × 40 × 656 mm - 1 piece;
• 20 × 40 × 590 mm - 2 pieces.

Glue the pieces 960 and 1300 mm long in pairs. Then firmly tighten the assembled packages with clamps and place the weight on top. If using wood blocks, skip this step and just sand the pieces well if they are not smooth enough.

The edges of parts 960, 1300 and 590 mm long must be rounded off at both ends. To do this, use a compass and a round object of a suitable diameter to mark the fillet, and then remove the excess with a grinder or cut with a jigsaw.

Sand the ends of the glued parts to remove glue residues and smooth out any unevenness. For convenience, collect them in one bag and tighten with clamps.

On the 960 mm long parts, make cutouts to fix the backrest support. Mark them according to the drawing and cut them out with a jigsaw or a hacksaw.

Now drill the holes to connect all the elements, referring to the drawing. To make the chaise longue completely collapsible, the original design uses M6 furniture nuts, for which 9 mm holes are needed. If you use other fasteners, take a drill of the appropriate diameter.

Drill two holes on both sides at the ends of the parts 536, 596 and 656 mm long (those without fillets). Drill diameter 9 mm for M6 cut-in nuts or other - for your fasteners.

Use a milling cutter or grinder to remove small chamfers on the edges of all parts. Seal the opened voids in the plywood with wood filler.

Treat the workpieces with varnish or stain to protect them from moisture. Let them dry completely.

Screw nuts into the ends of parts 536, 596 and 656 mm long, having previously tightened the workpieces with a clamp so as not to split. For durability, coat the hole with cyanoacrylate glue.

Also screw the nuts into the remaining holes on the side faces of the parts 590, 600 and 950 mm long. Here you can already do without clamps and glue, simply by wrapping the fasteners with a screwdriver.

Make a seat from a piece of fabric 500 × 1500 mm. To do this, sew it along the edges, and make loops from above and below for attaching to the frame.

Assemble the chaise longue by tightening the pieces with furniture screws. First, make two frames. The first consists of two pairs of elements with a length of 1300 mm and 596 mm (back and front legs). The second consists of two pairs of parts 960 mm and 536 mm long (seat and rear legs). Attach two elements 590 mm long to the large frame and pull them together with a single unpaired piece 656 mm long.

Connect the two frames by inserting an M8 washer between them to eliminate wood friction when folding the hinge.

Install the fabric hanger on the backrest and seat cross members. To do this, one side of each part will have to be disassembled in order to pull the fabric over them. So it is best to fully tighten all screws after final assembly.

How to make an anatomical chaise longue from bars

An unusual lounger with smooth lines that follows the curves of the body. It looks very cool, but it turns out to be quite massive and heavy. The base can be rounded off, and then you can swing on the deck chair.

• Jigsaw;

• grinder;
• long clamps;
• board 40-50 mm thick and as wide as possible;
• rail 20 × 50 mm;
• timber 50 × 100 mm;
• glue;
• dowels;
• screws;
• chalk;
• pencil.

How to do

The approximate dimensions of a chaise longue look like this. But it is best to draw a contour with chalk directly on the floor and try it on for your body - this is exactly what the author of the original project did.

Cut several pieces from a wide board to cover the contour of the future deck chair. You will need two such blanks.

Drill holes in the center of the edges of the board, fill them with glue, hammer the dowels inside and tighten with clamps to connect them together. If you do not want to bother, just put a couple of boards on the inside of the spliced blanks and screw them with screws (from the outside you will still not see anything).

After the glue hardens (usually about a day), draw the outlines of the sidewalls on the blanks and cut off all excess with a jigsaw. By the way, it is more convenient to mark the second part by attaching the first to it.

Pull the sidewalls together with clamps and sand along the contour to make them more symmetrical and smoother.

At this stage, you can already try on a chaise longue and, if necessary, correct its shape with a jigsaw.

Sand all surfaces of the parts and round off the edges with a grinder or router.

Saw slats 20 × 50 mm as long as you want the chair to be (usually 600 mm) and sew them over the surface of the chaise longue. The original project has about 30 planks.

Attach them by screwing in one screw from each end. For equal gaps, use the same rail set on the edge as a conductor.

Sand the flooring and round the corners on the bottom and top planks so they don't stick out.

Reinforce the structure by installing a pair of 50 × 100 mm bars from the inside into the base and backrest and fixing them with screws. With the oblique screw template, this can be done from the inside. Otherwise, just screw in the screws from the outside.
