iOS 10 is teeming with innovations and changes, but not all of them are noticeable at first glance. Here are ten iOS 10 features you might have missed.
Two weeks have passed since the release of the final version of iOS 10, which you can read more about in. During this time, the new mobile operating system Apple has managed to spread to a significant number of compatible devices.
At the same time, not all innovations were obvious enough for users, many are not noticeable at first glance. We will talk about them within the framework of this material.
1. Simultaneous closing of all tabs in Safari
If you like to open multiple tabs in your browser at once, then you will surely appreciate this innovation in iOS 10. You no longer need to close each tab yourself. All you need to do is press and hold the switch tabs button in the lower right corner of the screen on iPhone or in the upper right corner on iPad to bring up a new menu in which you will be prompted to create a new tab or close all open tabs.
Thus, creating a new tab or closing everything at once has now become much easier. By the way, the limit on their number has also been lifted, at least create three hundred.
2. In Safari for iPad, you can open two tabs at once in SplitView mode
Earlier in iOS for iPad, it became possible to use SplitView to display two applications on one screen at once. With iOS 10, Apple went even further and allowed two tabs to be opened in parallel in Safari. It is enough to press and hold your finger on any link and select the "Open in SplitView" option from the context menu.
You can also hold down the switch tabs button and select "Open SplitView" from the menu that appears. In addition, when using Safari, you can bring up a second app at the right edge of the screen and select another copy of the browser there.
3. Siri announces the caller's name when there is an incoming call
This is not to say that this opportunity is completely new. For example, it was implemented in Nokia smartphones based on Symbian several years ago. However, the iPhone may well have missed it. The bottom line is that Siri will voice the name of the person who is calling you at the moment. This feature is activated as follows: Settings → Phone → Call announcements.
There are three options for using this function: say the name always, when using headphones and in the car, or only with headphones. At a minimum, the use of Siri suggests itself, so as not to reach the smartphone once again when listening to music.
4. Saving traffic in iMessage
Modern instant messengers are a very solid item of traffic expenses for active users. Apple suggests saving on image transmission by sending images with poorer quality over the cellular network.
In order to activate this function, go to the "Settings" menu, then open the "Messages" item and select "Low quality mode". When using a Wi-Fi network, the restriction will not apply.
5. Apple maps remember where the car is parked
The endless wandering around the parking lot looking for the spot where you left your car will soon be over. In iOS 10, built-in maps remember where you parked. To do this, you need to activate this option in the "Settings" menu by selecting the "Maps" item.
In addition, your smartphone must receive a parking signal to store the location of the vehicle. The iPhone uses the car's CarPlay or a regular Bluetooth connection to the multimedia system for this. When the connection is broken, you will receive a notification that the parking spot has been saved.
6. New features of 3D Touch
In iOS 10, screen pressure recognition, referred to as 3D Touch, has gone from a promising innovation to a really useful addition. So, using 3D Touch, you can adjust the brightness of the flashlight, set a timer for a specific time, delete absolutely all notifications in two taps, and even set priority when downloading applications.
If one of two or three downloaded programs is of greater interest to you, then you can speed up its loading by pressing the corresponding application icon by increasing the priority. In general, there are enough innovations related to 3D Touch. Do not be lazy to test your favorite applications for their availability.
7. Camera as a magnifying glass
For people with not very good vision, the iPhone or iPad camera can now help to enlarge a certain object or text in order to see it better. To activate this mode, go to Settings → General → Universal Access and activate the "Magnifier" option.
After that, just press the Home button three times to quickly launch the Magnifier.
8. Music can be deleted automatically when out of memory
Owners of iPhones and iPads with minimal memory have to carefully balance the music downloaded to the device and the storage space reserved for other needs. IOS 10 makes this easier.
Go to Settings → Music and activate the "Storage Optimization" option. Now, when the built-in memory is full, the system will automatically delete the stored music, starting with the one that you have not listened to for a long time.
By the way, in the same section of settings there was a function "Automatic downloads", which allows you to automatically load songs added to the library into memory. It can be useful.
9. Exporting data from the Health application
Now all the data about your activity, collected by the system application of the same name and the Health program, can be saved separately from the backup, which can sometimes be useful. To do this, open the Health application and, on the Medical Data screen, click on the profile icon in the upper right corner of the screen. At the bottom there will be a button "Export medical data".
10. New view of the stopwatch in the "Clock" application
Do you often use a stopwatch? If the answer is yes, then you will be interested to know that in iOS 10 Apple has implemented an alternative look for this section of the "Clock" application. To access it, just go to the stopwatch and swipe from right to left. You will have a new stopwatch.
We have provided 10 of the most interesting and not the most obvious changes and innovations in iOS 10. If you also noticed something interesting in the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system, let's share your findings in the comments.
