Apples are so common and affordable that in our minds they do not pretend to be a miraculous natural remedy. Meanwhile, our ancestors were well aware of the healing properties of apples. It is not for nothing that they are so often found in fairy tales and legends as a symbol of fertility, beauty and health.

If we analyze the nutritional composition of apples, we will see that they mainly consist of water, practically do not contain fats and proteins, very few carbohydrates. But here there is a large number of essential vitamins and, above all, vitamin C.

In addition, apples contain various macro and microelements necessary for our body, including potassium, sodium, zinc, and so on. The calorie content is quite low: 100 g of apples contain on average about 45 kcal.

According to a 2011 study by the American Chemical Society, scientists were able to prove a 10% increase in the lifespan of experimental animals on apple feeding.

There is also evidence of increased locomotor activity in these animals. Although research is currently being conducted in laboratory animals, there are no obstacles to applying the general findings to humans.

Improving memory

Consuming apples increases the production and amount of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the brain, according to a study by the University of Massachusetts. It is a multifunctional hormone, one of the tasks of which is to modulate neuroplasticity, which is responsible for the brain's ability to change and build new structures.

Increasing the amount of acetylcholine in the brain improves memory, and also prevents the onset of Alzheimer's disease and slows down the decline in a person's mental abilities.

Reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes

We all know about heart attacks, strokes and atherosclerosis that: a) this is a very bad thing; b) they are literally every second; c) the cause is very often an excess of LDL-cholesterol ("bad cholesterol").

What you almost don't know is that apples are able to reduce the amount of LDL cholesterol in patients by 23%. This is an incredible achievement: when treating patients suffering from high cholesterol, conventional drugs can lower LDL cholesterol by 18-50%, with a host of devastating side effects. According to a study in Hawaii, there is a correlation between apple consumption and the risk of lung cancer in both sexes.
